Distribution Center Information Sheet Job Description: What You Will Work OnIn this role, you will take the lead in shaping how products move across one of our high-volume distribution centers, driving efficiency from dock to door while supporting a seamless omnichannel experience. You will design, evaluate, and optimize workflows across picking, packing, conveyance, and sortation to ensure we meet service expectations and stay ahead of demand. Your work will directly impact throughput, cost per unit, and overall operational performance through data-driven decisions and innovative engineering solutions.
You will partner with cross-functional teams to bring large-scale initiatives to life, from labor strategies to automation and long-term capacity planning. This includes building business cases, developing facility layouts, and supporting the implementation and stabilization of new systems and equipment. You will also lead continuous improvement efforts, using structured problem-solving and analytics to enhance productivity, reduce complexity, and build scalable solutions for future growth.
Who You Will Work WithYou will collaborate closely with distribution center leaders, operations teams, and cross-functional partners including IT, Finance, maintenance, and external vendors. As a trusted technical advisor, you will influence decisions related to labor productivity, automation strategies, and operational improvements. You will also play a key role in coaching and developing engineers by sharing best practices in industrial engineering, guiding technical problem-solving, and elevating team capabilities across process design, analytics, and continuous improvement.
Your ability to communicate across all levels of the organization will be key to aligning engineering solutions with business priorities.

Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Engineering, or related field; Master's degree or MBA preferred
7+ years of industrial engineering experience in high-volume distribution, fulfillment, retail, ecommerce, or 3PL environments
5+ years supporting large-scale operations or supply chain networks
3+ years of experience with labor standards and engineered labor systems (MOST, MTM), DC automation, RFID, and/or Warehouse Management Systems (preferably Manhattan Active Labor Management)
PMP and/or Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred
Proven track record leading projects exceeding $1M in capital spend
Experience designing and implementing automation solutions including conveyance, sortation, and RFID-enabled systems
Strong proficiency in data analysis tools such as Advanced Excel, SQL, and Power BI for modeling, forecasting, and performance tracking
Experience developing business cases, capital budgets, ROI/payback models, and benefit realization tracking
Proficiency with AutoCAD for facility layout design, process mapping, and system documentation
Expertise in Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and structured problem-solving methodologies (DMAIC, A3, 5 Whys)
Strong ability to analyze MHE utilization, slotting strategies, and warehouse flow to optimize space and labor efficiency
Strong communication skills with experience presenting to senior leaders

Education:
Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant field of study required.
MS Operations Management, MS, MBA, Six Sigma – Black Belt preferred.
PM certification preferred.
Work Experiences:
7+ years of related experience in distribution operations and mechanical or industrial engineering.
5+ years of retail industry experience.
3+ years of experience with MOST RFID, Robots, Warehousing Systems, Store Systems, or DC automation preferred.

Demonstrated strength in problem solving and analytics and capable of driving insights to actions.

Responsibilities:
Develops business justification that supports ASO's strategy. Lead cross-functional projects using cutting edge retail industry concepts to reduce cost and improve profitability.
Collaborates with vendors, engineers, DC leadership, DC maintenance, and senior leaders to understand the specified material and the conveyance, transport, and other handling needs.
Evaluates current material handling processes, considering innovations in material and methods.
Recommends improvements to ensure most efficient and cost-effective handling procedures.
Drafts sketches, samples, technical documentation, user manuals, and written analysis of proposed designs or improvements to handling system and other related elements.
Estimates material needs, costs, and timelines for proposed projects.
Facilitates installation, testing, and debugging phases of projects.
Drives operational improvement initiatives in partnership with cross functional team members and senior leaders.
Provides actionable insights into MHE performance via data gathering and manipulation, synthesis and modeling, problem solving, and communication of recommendations.
Evaluates MHE utilization and preventive maintenance programs and recommend improvements.
Develops project plan and baseline analysis, implements process improvement, ensures desired results were achieved, and continues assessment of new processes.
Implement and design process improvement changes to increase performance and reduce overall operating costs.
Mentoring entry level engineers and DC managers.
Develops a thorough understanding of the Academy's policies, procedures, and safety rules.
