Job Description:Education:
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field study or equivalent years of related work experience required
Work Experiences:
- 10+ years of experience in retail management or merchandising
- Previous retail-specific buying, planning, visual merchandising or store experience required
Skills:
- Demonstrated experience leading and working with cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated experience working closely with senior leadership
- Results oriented, passionate and demonstrating a strong sense of urgency
- Outstanding creative merchandising skills
- Ability to build partnerships and influence across all levels of management

Responsibilities:
- Leads team of Regional Merchants who act as a liaison for Store Leadership by communicating in-store priorities, proving feedback with merchants, planners and vendor representatives.
- Improves Academy's ability to deliver on local market product needs by influencing the performance and execution of the Regional Merchant team.
- Guides department performance by analyzing merchant initiatives to execute overall strategy and shape company merchandising standards.
- Provides leadership to Regional Merchant team through guidance and analysis of merchandising execution, visual presentation, new concepts, and inventory management.
- Drives sales through the elevation of Academy product and merchandise assortments by collaborating with key partners such as merchants, regional marketing, planning & replenishment, stores and field leaders.
- Leads the vision and creation of programs to enhance in store merchandising presentation, streamline processes, deliver localized needs, and maintain a competitive edge.
- Supports new store assortment and provides input to shape company merchandising standards
- Leads efforts to gather and synthesize post season feedback from field teams in order to affect change within merchant and marketing divisions.
- Understands merchandise, selling, product training and strategies to champion and set the overall direction of standards and performance through driving sales.
- Regularly visits stores and competitors to assess and understand market opportunities.
- Drives innovation by understanding the merchandising needs of all Academy regions and markets.
- Works on complex or special projects that will impact Academy merchandising.
- Participates in cross functional groups and presents regularly to key members of leadership.
- Provides open feedback and mentorship to the team for continued growth and development.
- Inspires, motivates, and develops the team within a fast paced environment.
- Develops a thorough understanding of Academy policies, procedures and safety rules.
- Responsibilities may change; team members may be required to perform other tasks as assigned.
Physical Requirements & Attendance
- 75% travel required, other 25% of time spent in Katy, TX working with Corporate teams
- Able to work flexible hours such as evening, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties
- Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures and rules governing professional staff behavior
