About the Role

We are seeking a Business Improvement Superintendent to provide leadership and strategic direction to the location's lead team. You will be responsible for the site-wide development and deployment of the Alcoa Business System (ABS), Alcoa's management operating system. The position involves managing a small team of Business Improvement Specialists on-site and coaching the location's leadership team to apply ABS methodology to achieve operational excellence.

This role is a key part of the ABS team, which includes regional and global teams. It is critical to the stability and day-to-day improvement of the mine's operations, and it is seen as a development opportunity for future leaders. This role will report to the Manager, ABS & Asset Productivity – Mining and will be based at our Huntly Mine site, on a family friendly Monday to Friday roster, with a paid leisure day off every 4 weeks so you can spend more time doing the things you love.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing the location's business improvement strategy.

  • Providing expert advice, coaching, and training on ABS principles and their implementation.

  • Leading business improvement and problem-solving activities at all levels of the organisation.

  • Advising the management team on how to overcome resistance to change.

  • Working with area managers to help them achieve operational excellence using ABS methodologies.

  • Facilitating regular audits with the lead team to assess the health of management systems.

  • Ensuring the location completes core Business Standard audits and takes action to maintain these standards.

What you can bring to the role

  • Ideally you will hold a tertiary qualification – A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, business management, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience

  • Proven experience leading and implementing change within the manufacturing, mining or heavy industry as a senior change leader

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to coach the location's leadership team to embrace the concepts of Quality Management or Lean Manufacturing and apply them in all aspects of the business.

  • The ability to influence and motivate individuals or groups at all levels of the organisation.

  • Advanced problem-solving skills and a high-level understanding of team dynamics is essential.

  • Practical knowledge of applying continuous improvement methodologies to improve business processes and systems.
