AMD together we advance_

THE ROLE:
As a Hardware Engineer, you will be part of a highly dynamic and fast-paced design team developing state-of-the-art systems for the rapidly growing data center AI acceleration market. You will lead and contribute to the development of system and board hardware from inception through full-volume production. This role offers the opportunity to work cross-functionally with power supply designers, mechanical and thermal engineers, firmware developers, validation engineers, PCB layout specialists, and both internal and external stakeholders. You'll play a key role in creating high-quality, cutting-edge products that drive AMD's leadership in AI acceleration.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, detail-oriented engineer with strong technical leadership skills and a passion for innovative hardware design. You thrive in a fast-moving environment, are comfortable leading projects from concept to production, and excel at balancing technical trade-offs for optimal cost, performance, and reliability. You are proactive, resourceful, and a strong communicator who enjoys working across disciplines and mentoring peers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead cross-functional teams in the design and development of AI acceleration hardware systems, from product definition to production.
  • Drive the physical design of multilevel boards, including DFM (Design for Manufacturing), power regulation, board bring-up, debug, and qualification.
  • Provide technical leadership and communication across hardware engineering, architecture, customer, and program management teams.
  • Partner with SoC silicon architects and business units to define product requirements, specifications, and cost targets.
  • Develop and manage validation strategies, including hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, design verification, and optimizations.
  • Innovate in system architecture, circuit design, and component selection, with a focus on performance, reliability, and security.
  • Deliver implementation guidelines and feedback to silicon, package, and system design groups.
  • Document and publish technical specifications and design documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Board hardware and system design expertise with a track record of taking products from concept to mass production.
  • Proficiency in BOM management and product specification development.
  • Strong knowledge of high-speed mixed-signal design techniques.
  • Experience with Cadence tools (Concept Capture, Allegro PCB).
  • Expertise in LDOs and Multiphase DC-DC switching power supply design for high-power ASICs; experience with power delivery for GPUs/CPUs is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware lab tools (oscilloscopes, digital analyzers, etc.).
  • Familiarity with firmware, APIs, operating systems (Windows, Linux), data accelerators, compute, and virtualization environments.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as USB, PCI Express, memory interfaces, I2C/SMBus/PMBus, SPI, and JTAG.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, BASH, Perl) to support design automation and daily tasks.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with high-speed serial interfaces (PCIe, USB) is a plus.
  • Background in switch, CPU, and FPGA board design with SI/PI knowledge, particularly Broadcom or Cisco switches.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred; Master's degree desired.
