AMD is redefining performance and efficiency at scale, shaping the future of AI, cloud computing, and high-performance servers through cutting-edge platform innovation. As an IC Socket & Connector Engineer, you will lead critical innovations that enable next-generation platforms by designing and developing high-speed connectors, cables, and sockets for advanced servers and AI systems. This role combines deep technical expertise with program leadership to deliver reliable, scalable, and cost-effective solutions that strengthen AMD's technology leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and drive the end-to-end design and production release of next-generation high-speed connectors, cables, and sockets for high-volume platforms.
  • Develop advanced solutions for emerging packaging technologies and rack-scale infrastructure, influencing platform architecture decisions.
  • Lead engineering evaluations, lab testing, and reliability assessments on new designs and contact technologies to ensure long-term performance and compliance with industry standards.
  • Oversee test package and board design, procurement, and evaluation, ensuring readiness for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Manage multi-supplier development programs, building a robust and collaborative ecosystem that accelerates innovation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to optimize connector and socket interactions across package, board, and rack for maximum performance and cost efficiency.
  • Create and maintain technical specifications, BOMs, and assembly instructions, ensuring manufacturing readiness and quality.
  • Champion AMD's culture of innovation and collaboration by mentoring teams, fostering diverse perspectives, and driving continuous improvement.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in connector, cable, and socket technologies, including high-volume manufacturing.
  • Proven ability to lead complex development programs independently, driving innovation and supplier capability growth.
  • Expertise in mechanical tolerance analysis using RSS/Monte Carlo methods.
  • Strong knowledge of connector reliability standards and qualification processes.
  • Hands-on experience with connector/cable/socket testing and failure analysis of separable interfaces and solder joints.
  • Familiarity with contact metallurgy, metal finishes, and root cause analysis for socket, connector, and cable failures.
  • Basic understanding of signal integrity and systems engineering principles related to connectors and sockets, including VNA measurements.
  • Experience working with suppliers and managing development programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to create technical documents and present to executive leadership.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, LabVIEW, MATLAB, JMP, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; structural FEA expertise is a plus.
