THE ROLE:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Power Design Engineer to join our team. As a Power Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing power systems and components for various applications. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation of power designs and contribute to the overall product development process.

 

THE PERSON:

The candidate will contribute to the development of cutting-edge power systems that drive innovation for AMD products

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and develop power systems and components for AMD reference platforms and Customer production boards in a wide range of applications, including but not limited to consumer electronics and automotive products
  • Work closely with Silicon team to bring up AMD APU products and actively participate in issue debugging and resolution.
  • Drive innovation to optimize the power and board designs and document the technical design files.
  • Execute schematic design, components selection, BOM cost control, and layout design guidance throughout entire platform development lifecycle
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis to understand power requirements and constraints for each project.
  • Create detailed power system specifications, including power budgets, voltage and current requirements, and efficiency targets.
  • Design and simulate power circuits, including DC-DC converters, voltage regulators, and power management systems.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to integrate power designs into overall product architecture.
  • Perform circuit analysis, simulation, and optimization using industry-standard tools and techniques.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate power designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve power-related issues during the development and testing phases.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to Drive customer critical power issues to closure to ensure customer program on track

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands on experience on PWM power design in PC, Consumer, Telecom or server;
  • Proven experience in power electronics design, preferably in a product development environment with silicon and board bring up and debug;
  • Proficient in the principles of multi buck, buck-boost and other DC-DC topology;
  • Proficiency in using simulation tools such as SPICE, PLECS, or MATLAB/Simulink for power circuit analysis and design.
  • Familiarity with PCB layout and design principles for power electronics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex power-related issues.
  • Proficient in analog/digital mixed signal, power design, Thermal design, EMI, power integrity;
  • Strong experience in Cadence tools, like concept, Allegro and simulation tools, like PD, LTSPICE, SIMIPLIS; Familiarity with power test equipment and tools;
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and reliability in power designs.
  • Experience with hardware description languages (HDL) such as VHDL or Verilog is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams with good English reading and writing.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to power electronics, such as UL, IEC, and IEEE.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
