Role Summary
This Product Applications Engineer (PAE) is part of the AMD Customer Training organization, focused on developing advanced technical training content for AMD's x86-based embedded platforms, software stack, and development workflows. The role requires deep technical expertise, leadership in content architecture, and close collaboration with global engineering teams to create world-class training solutions that accelerate customer adoption and success.
As an Senior Embedded Product Application Engineer (X86), you will drive the definition, design, and delivery of highly technical coursework covering AMD x86 embedded processors, board bring-up, BIOS/firmware, device drivers, memory subsystems, PCIe/High-Speed I/O, operating systems, and the full embedded software development lifecycle.
This role interacts frequently with Subject Matter Experts across AMD R&D, Field Applications Engineering, Technical Marketing, and global training partners. You will be responsible for translating complex engineering concepts into instructionally sound, accurate, and engaging training for a wide range of customer personas.
- Lead the design, development, and lifecycle maintenance of advanced x86 embedded system training content.
- Architect and author training modules using industry-standard instructional design methodologies.
- Build, validate, and maintain reference designs and example applications demonstrating x86 embedded workflows (bare-metal, Linux, RTOS, drivers, board bring-up).
- Develop comprehensive documentation including presentation slides, lab exercises, hands-on workshops, scripts, and assessment materials.
- Provide technical oversight for eLearning modules including animation storyboards, voice-over scripts, demonstration videos, and interactive labs.
- Collaborate with Senior Engineers, Training Leads, and global SMEs to identify learning requirements for new products and technologies.
- Serve as a technical mentor for junior PAE/Content Developers, guiding them on architecture, validation, content quality, and technical accuracy.
- Influence and refine training roadmaps for x86 embedded systems, ensuring global customer needs and NPI timelines are supported.
- Develop and validate x86 embedded reference designs including:
- CPU architecture fundamentals
- Boot flow (BIOS/UEFI, firmware stages)
- High-speed DDR4/DDR5, PCIe Gen4+, USB, and peripheral subsystems
- BSP integration and OS bring-up
- Driver development and debugging
- Perform functional, simulation-based, and in-system validation before content release.
- Engage with customers, internal teams, and Authorized Training Partners to address feedback, technical questions, and improvement requests.
- File and track Change Requests with AMD R&D regarding issues identified during training development or customer usage.
- Continuously expand expertise in emerging AMD embedded technologies through self-study and internal engineering collaboration.
- Own project planning for assigned training modules, ensuring milestones, quality standards, and release schedules are met.
- Provide clear and timely communication across global teams to ensure alignment and transparency on progress and blockers.
Required Qualifications Education

- 8+ years of hands-on experience in x86 embedded software development.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ for low-level and embedded system programming.
- Solid understanding of the x86 architecture, memory hierarchy, interrupt controllers, and boot process.
- Experience with BIOS/UEFI, firmware stages, board bring-up, and system initialization.
- Knowledge of:
- Bare-metal and Linux-based embedded development
- BSPs, device drivers, OS porting, and HAL layers
- Windows driver development (a plus)
- Familiarity with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR4/DDR5, LPDDR4/5, USB 3.x/4.0, and related validation/testing.
- Experience with CPU schematics, CRB bring-up, validation, instrumentation, and reporting.
- Strong debugging and problem‑solving skills using tools such as JTAG debuggers, logic analyzers, trace tools, and system logs.
- Scripting proficiency in Python, Shell, and experience with x86 assembly is a plus.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to a wide range of audiences.
- Experience producing technical documentation, training materials, or customer-facing content is highly desirable.
- Strong collaboration mindset and ability to work with distributed global teams.
- Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex engineering problems with minimal guidance.
- Ability to make architectural decisions for training designs and influence best practices.
- Leadership in content development cycles and mentoring junior team members.
