Senior Manager – Robotics Software & SDK Development
Role Overview:
AMD is seeking a Senior Manager – Robotics Software & SDK Development to lead the architecture, development, and delivery of next-generation robotics software platforms and developer SDKs optimized for AMD CPUs, GPUs, and adaptive SoCs.
This role blends deep technical leadership, people management, and ecosystem influence, driving software that enables robotic perception, planning, control, and AI acceleration across industrial, automotive, healthcare, and autonomous systems.
You will lead multi-disciplinary teams building performance-critical, developer-facing software while partnering closely with hardware architecture, AI frameworks, customers, and the open-source community.
Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Architecture- Define and own the software and SDK strategy for robotics platforms leveraging AMD CPUs, GPUs, and adaptive SoCs.
- Lead architecture of robotics middleware, runtime systems, and SDKs, including compute acceleration, sensor pipelines, real-time control, and AI inference.
- Drive performance optimization, scalability, determinism, and power efficiency across software stacks.
- Establish best practices for API design, ABI stability, SDK usability, documentation, and developer experience.
- Oversee development of robotics SDK components such as:
- Hardware abstraction layers (HAL)
- Sensors and perception pipelines
- Motion planning and control frameworks
- AI/ML inference acceleration
- Simulation and validation tools
- Ensure strong integration with industry frameworks (e.g., ROS / ROS 2, DDS, OpenXR, OpenCL, Vulkan, AI frameworks).
- Drive software portability across Linux variants, real-time OSes, and embedded platforms.
- Build, mentor, and scale high-performing software engineering teams.
- Manage managers and senior technical leads across multiple geographies.
- Own execution across complex, multi-quarter programs with clear milestones, quality metrics, and delivery commitments.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and accountability.
- Partner with:
- Silicon architecture and validation teams
- AI software and compiler teams
- Product management and marketing
- Field engineering and strategic customers
- Translate customer and market requirements into platform roadmaps.
- Influence silicon feature requirements based on software and robotics workloads.
- Represent AMD in open-source robotics and AI communities.
- Drive upstream contributions, standards participation, and ecosystem partnerships.
- Enable ISVs, OEMs, and research partners through whitepapers, reference designs, and technical guidance.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- 15+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years in engineering management or technical leadership roles.
- Strong hands-on background in C/C++, Python, and modern software engineering practices.
- Experience building SDKs, platforms, or developer tools for large external ecosystems.
- Deep understanding of:
- Robotics software architectures
- Real-time systems and concurrency
- Performance optimization on heterogeneous compute (CPU/GPU/accelerators)
- Proven ability to lead complex programs across hardware and software boundaries.
- Experience with ROS / ROS 2, DDS, or real-time middleware.
- Background in AI/ML inference, perception pipelines, or autonomous systems.
- Familiarity with embedded Linux, RTOS, or safety-aware software development.
- Experience contributing to or leading open-source projects.
- Prior experience working closely with silicon, GPU, or accelerator architectures.
