In this hands‑on role, you will work closely with SoC and platform architects, software and firmware engineers to set up, modify, and maintain system boards and lab infrastructure. You will assist with board bring‑up, instrumentation, and power measurement to enable accurate analysis of power efficiency, performance per watt, and battery life. This is an opportunity to gain direct exposure to AMD's most advanced products while contributing to lab operations that support world‑class innovation in high‑performance computing and graphics
THE PERSON:
The ideal candidate is hands‑on, detail‑oriented, and highly organized, with a strong interest in hardware systems and lab‑based engineering work. You are comfortable working directly with system boards, test instrumentation, and lab infrastructure, and enjoy troubleshooting and learning through practical experience.
This role requires someone who is eager to set up and configure laptops and development platforms, modify and instrument boards for accurate power measurements, and help maintain a reliable, well‑structured lab environment. You will take ownership of lab equipment, networking, and board setups, including enabling remote access for distributed engineering teams. Successful candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment, follow procedures carefully, document your work clearly, and take pride in supporting engineering teams by keeping lab systems running smoothly and accurately.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
System setup & board bring-up
- Configure laptops, development boards, and SoC platforms for engineering use.
- Perform board-level modifications including probe point installation and current sensing for power monitoring.
- Modify and instrument PCB/system boards to enable accurate component‑level and bus‑level power measurements
- Develop Basic scripting for test automation (Python, shell, or similar)
Power measurement & analysis
- Capture and analyze power data using oscilloscopes, meters, and current probes.
- Document CPU, component, and power bus behavior across device operating states.
Lab instrumentation & automation
- Develop and maintain LabVIEW-based test sequences for automated data acquisition.
- Integrate instruments via Ethernet, USB and other serial interfaces.
- Maintain and organize lab infrastructure, including:
- Networking (Ethernet switches, cabling, IP assignments)
- Lab servers, bench equipment, and shared resources
- Set up and support remote access to boards and lab systems (console access, remote power control, remote monitoring)
Remote access & lab networking
- Configure and maintain lab network infrastructure including switches, KVM-over-IP, and serial console servers to support remote hardware access for off-site engineers.
Logic analysis & debug
- Use bus analyzers and protocol decoders (I2C, SPI, UART, PCIe) to assist in board debug.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- 0-3 years of experience in this role
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent Military or hands‑on experience.
- Familiarity with PCB boards, schematics, and board‑level components
- Hands‑on experience with:
- Oscilloscopes & probes
- Bus analyzers
- Surface mount component rework
- Experience or exposure to LabVIEW and lab instrumentation control
- Comfortable working with system boards, connectors, probes, and rework tools
- Basic knowledge of networking concepts (IP addressing, switches, remote access)
