About the Department
In the Compute and Graphics hardware design team, we design high-technology platforms for world class products based on AMD's Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) and Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). Our team plays a major part in architecting and shaping every graphics board offered by AMD.
We design cutting-edge motherboards and graphics boards that retail around the world. As we always face more stringent demands in terms of performance and efficiency these designs are essential to maximize the performance from our silicon in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Our team designs specialized hardware and software tools for studying and characterizing the power behavior of our silicon and supporting platform boards. These tools are crucial for ensuring that data is readily available to make proper engineering decisions.
The Role
The successful candidate would be responsible in aiding the continuous development and validation of AMD APU and GPU hardware electrical systems, with a primary focus on our internally developed power characterization tool. This is a unique role that intersects FPGA firmware design with hardware design and software support.
Key Responsibilities
- Development and maintenance of the power characterization tool's FPGA firmware backend and software front-end
- Close collaboration with the tool's technical leads to create a robust platform
- Debugging new feature implementations and validating functionality with comprehensive SW simulations and HW analysis executed in the context of exhaustive test plans
- End-user support for measurement debug and analysis
- Documenting details about analyses, design, and testing methodologies
Preferred Experience
- High proficiency in hardware design languages (HDL) such as Verilog, System Verilog or VHDL
- Ground-up FPGA FW creation with system Verilog and digital circuits timing analysis
- Strong understanding of digital signal filtering techniques
- Experience in Python scripting for data processing
- Experience with XML coding is an asset
- Familiarity with Vivado Design Suite
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment: oscilloscope, function generator, bench power supply, etc.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to write technical documentations
- Hands-on experience designing, validating, and debugging electronics circuits is desirable
Academic Credentials
- B.SC. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
