Sr. Validation Engineer - (BMC)
THE ROLE:
We are looking for a dynamic, energetic Senior Software Systems Design Engineer to join our growing Embedded Processor Development team.
The role involves end-to-end validation of BMC features, platform management interfaces, security mechanisms, and compliance with industry standards. The engineer will work closely with firmware, hardware, BIOS, OS, and Embedded validation teams to ensure robust remote management, power control, telemetry, and security functionality.
- Lead validation of BMC firmware and platform management features on Embedded platforms.
- Own test strategy, planning, execution, automation, and sign-off for out-of-band management, security, and platform integration.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with BIOS/UEFI, system firmware, hardware, vendors, and OEM/ODM partners to drive product quality and reliability.
THE PERSON:
A hands-on BMC validation engineer with strong debugging skills, comfortable working at the intersection of firmware, hardware, and networking in Embedded platforms. They are detail-oriented, curious, and persistent in root cause analysis — someone who enjoys breaking firmware and understanding why it broke. Proactive, Self Driven Individual
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define and maintain comprehensive test plans for BMC features, regression, and release sign-offs.
- 5 plus years of experience level
- Complete ownership of BMC Validation for all Embedded products
- Validate BMC management interfaces and protocols:
- Redfish (REST), IPMI 2.0, PLDM over MCTP, NVMe-MI, PMBus.
- In-band/out-of-band management, event logging, sensors, and alerts.
- Verify core BMC functions:
- KVM/HTML5 console, Virtual Media, Serial-over-LAN (SOL), power control (on/off/reset), chassis inventory.
- Firmware update flows (BMC, BIOS/UEFI, CPLD/FPGA, VR/PSU) including image signing and rollback protection.
- Thermal and fan control policies, PSU monitoring, GPIO/LEDs, board sensors (temp, voltage, current), and RAS reporting.
- Integration and platform bring-up:
- Interoperability with BIOS/UEFI, platform controllers, and Embedded board interfaces (I2C/PMBus, SPI, UART, PCIe, LPC/eSPI).
- System stress, recovery, watchdogs, and long-haul reliability testing.
- Security and compliance:
- RBAC, TLS/HTTPS, certificates, secure boot/attestation, audit logs, vulnerability/pen-test support.
- Automation and infrastructure:
- Build robust automated test suites and CI pipelines; improve coverage and test efficiency.
- Develop tooling for REST/IPMI/PLDM; manage test data, logs, and metrics.
- Triage and quality:
- Root-cause issues using logs, traces, and hardware instruments; drive fixes with vendors and internal teams.
- Drive technical innovation to improve AMD's capabilities across product development and validation, including software tools and script development, technical and procedural methodology enhancement, and various internal and cross-functional initiatives. Convert feature specifications into test cases (manual and automated) that will cover several types of testing - boundary, negative, functional, etc.
- Work with multiple teams and tracking test execution to make sure all features are validated and optimized on time.
- Lead collaborative approaches with multiple teams.
- Mentor others to achieve integrated projects.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Strong understanding of:
- BMC architecture (AST2400/2500/2600 or similar)
- Embedded Linux
- IPMI & Redfish standards
- Embedded platform architecture
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DHCP, VLAN)
- Linux command line proficiency
- Programming/scripting skills (e.g., C/C++, Perl, Ruby, Python).
- Debug techniques and methodologies.
- Proven work on Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Knowledge of system architecture, technical debug, and validation strategies.
- Detailed oriented; ability to multitask through planning/organizing.
- Excellent Communication and Presentation skills.
Knowledge of DMTF standards
- Exposure to virtualization environments
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelors or master's degree in electrical or computer engineering.
