DES is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)- Limited English Proficient (LEP) Coordinator. The ADA-LEP Coordinator coordinates and monitors efforts to fulfill the agency's responsibilities and compliance related to (1) public accommodations under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and (2) language access requirements under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and other federal and state laws prohibiting discrimination. This position evaluates, monitors, and reacts to language access needs/services for Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals regarding the delivery of department programs and services.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Works with divisions to develop and implement disability and language access tools, processes, and best practices.
• Meets regularly with the ADA Title II and Language Access Liaisons to provide consistent guidance and facilitate technical assistance to division liaisons on the overall implementation of ADA and LEP requirements to ensure division compliance.
• Establishes positive working relationships with DES staff, internal stakeholders, community organizations, local advocacy groups, and the local disability and LEP communities.
• Plans and coordinates a variety of inter-agency projects and activities.
• Solicits, reviews, and summarizes community comments regarding disability and language access to agency programs, services, and activities.
• Receives, assesses, and responds to requests for ADA accommodations from members of the general public.
• Receives, examines, resolves, and tracks complaints of violations of ADA and LEP regulations and assists with discrimination investigations related to the agency's nondiscrimination policy.
• Attends regular meetings and workshops related to the assigned areas of responsibility to stay abreast of new guidance, trends, and innovations related to assigned areas of responsibility.
• Participates in community outreach with organizations representing individuals with disabilities and/or limited English proficiency.
• Ensures required ADA Title II and LEP notifications required by federal and state laws are displayed in DES facilities and posted on the DES Website.
• Performs on site visits to assess compliance according to established schedules.
• Detects instances of noncompliance and prepares reports identifying the necessary corrective actions.
• Develops, implements, and manages the agency's ADA Transition Plan and Language Access Plan and updates annually.
• Assesses data to determine trends and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Develops strategies and outreach activities for the department's service populations.
• Submits recommendations to senior leadership and sets goals to ensure implementation.
Knowledge of:
• Current laws, regulations, and guidelines related to disability discrimination, including Title II of the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and other nondiscrimination laws.
• Federal and state standards and guidelines which apply to equal access to federally funded programs, services, and activities for individuals with disabilities and/or limited English proficiency.
• Principles and practices of compliance monitoring, review, and techniques.
• Principles and techniques of training and persuasive presentation of ideas and concepts in both oral and written formats.
Skills In:
• Communicating effectively and persuasively; speaking in large and small group settings.
• Establishing, evaluating, and implementing operational policies, practices, and procedures.
• Analyzing complex problems, evaluate alternative solutions and recommend or adopt effective courses of action.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:
• Possession of an ADA Coordinator Training Certification (ACTCP) preferred.
• All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
• Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency's ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
• This position may require driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver's License Requirements. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

Retirement:State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), the State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program after a 27-week waiting period. The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for life-long income upon retirement. You will also have the option to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation program to take advantage of tax-deferred retirement investments.
