Position Summary  

Under the supervision¿and guidance¿of the Associate Director of Student Success & Retention (SSR) the SSR Peer Educator will¿conduct various outreach efforts to students to promote their overall success and engagement with the college. Outreach will support three specific programs: Early Alert, Academic Standing, and Student Re-engagement. Peer Educators will apply active listening and critical thinking skills, and direct/refer students to the support service office(s) best equipped to meet their individual needs as identified during calls and emails. 

The SSR Peer Educator will be instrumental in providing peer-to-peer support, validating student experiences, and increasing engagement of students demonstrating academic distress/difficulty/dis-engagement with support services. The Peer Educator will also advocate for course completion (or incompletion) as it best meets the needs of each individual student, referring complex cases to professional staff, as necessary. Students with a specific interest in helping professions (such as counseling, psychology, teaching, social work, sociology, student affairs/higher education and more) are encouraged to apply.  

This position requires the completion of comprehensive training upon hiring. Training topics include 

  • Introduction to trauma informed practices, introduction to counseling best practices, overview of student development theory, campus resources, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Salesforce/TargetX CRM, Student Conduct Code and Title IX as well additional HR required trainings.
  • Shadowing of current Student Success & Retention Peer Educators.

This is a temporary part-time position and expected to end on 06/30/2026. Extension of the position pending on funding availability.
 

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Pay rate: $19.00/hour - $21.00/hour

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on student's qualifications and related experience. The successful candidate is expected to work 10 - 19 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. 

This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits. Student employees are entitled to begin accruing paid sick leave from the start of their employment.

About the Department  

The Student Success & Retention Office (SSR) at Bellevue College empowers students to persist, thrive, and graduate by delivering personalized, data-informed support through early intervention, academic coaching, and re-engagement strategies. We prioritize equity and well-being by connecting students, especially those facing academic or personal challenges, with peer-to-peer connection, campus resources, and holistic guidance tailored to their unique journeys.

Essential Functions  
  • Make timely outreach calls to students who are on the Early Alert, Academic Standing, and/or Re-engagement lists and send follow-up email communications with needed resources. 
  • Serve as a guide for students, while providing support, information, and encouragement as needed 
  • Establish¿and nurture good¿relations and¿communication with students whilst establishing appropriate boundaries. 
  • Help identify barriers/student needs so that the program leads can use this information to inform their work and the work of student services offices across the college. 
  • Log calls, send emails, and document notes within TargetX, our Customer Relations Management (CRM) tool 
  • Update appropriate outreach tracking databases as necessary 
  • Participate in campuswide events to promote the programs offered through Student Success & Retention (when possible) 
  • Participate in Student Success & Retention team meetings (required) 
  • Participate in regular one-on-one meetings with supervisor (required) 
  • Other duties as assigned  
    • Department tabling on campus to promote services and resources, support facilitating workshops, support with department sponsored events, etc. (when possible). 
    • Department projects (as needed). 
       
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Must be a Bellevue College (BC) registered student and in good academic standing (2.0 cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) or above) with the college. 
  • Student must be in good standing with Student Conduct.   
  • Willingness and ability to¿help and to support others.  
  • Ability to communicate well and represent the student voice.  
  • Analytical¿with good¿communication skills.   
  • Ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently.  
  • Adaptable and flexible in the way work is completed. 
  • Ability to work remotely via computer hardware and software.   
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Programs, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
