Position Summary  

The HSEWI Student Ambassador program is a leadership opportunity for students and recent alumni who are dedicated to serving and representing Bellevue College's Health Sciences, Education and Wellness Institute (HSEWI) programs.  Ambassadors provide peer mentoring and support the HSEWI division in development of recruitment and retention efforts for new and continuing students. This role provides a high level of student support and interactive customer service to increase student recruitment and success.

Student Ambassadors assist with general information, organize quarterly workshops and events, represent HSEWI at various campus and community events, and host weekly office hours. Student Ambassadors are expected to conduct themselves as campus leaders, exhibiting the behavior expected of a college representative. Candidates should exhibit a service-oriented attitude, a desire to work with current and prospective students, and a willingness to share their educational journey with others.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Pay rate: $19.00/hour

The successful candidate is expected towork 16 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.

The temporary hourly employment is limited to the earlier of 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months beginning from the original date of hire. Per WAC 357-04-045, following 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months, an individual is not eligible for re-employment at Bellevue College in another temporary part-time hourly position. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College.  

This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month. Eligible positions are eligible for certain benefits.

About the Department  

The Health Sciences, Education & Wellness Institute (HSEWI) fosters successful completion of our diverse students' education goals, as well as advocates life-long wellness, learning, teaching, and service excellence. We provide a wide variety of accessible, rigorous, and engaging professional/technical courses, programs, and credentials that are responsive to individual, institutional, and community needs, prospects, and opportunities. Our Institute is comprised of sixteen unique programs which focus on providing excellent education and training for many professions in healthcare, education, and wellness.

Essential Functions  

Marketing & Outreach

  • Participate in College, Division and Program events on-campus, in the community (i.e., high schools, hospitals, etc.), and virtually to promote HSEWI programs
  • Assist Division and programs with developing recruitment-related content focused on sharing their experiences from the student perspective for website and social media use
  • Create consistent and meaningful content from the student perspective on all identified social media platforms, including writing and editing social media posts, improving engagement, and promoting social media campaigns.  
  • Distribute informational brochures/fliers
  • Follow-up with leads generated at marketing and outreach events

Peer Support

  • Engage with prospective and new students and guide them to connect with specific programs
  • Schedule office hours to meet with HSEWI program students in-person or virtually
  • Respond to general program inquiries
  • Interact with a diverse population which may include faculty, students and/or parents.
  • Provide peer mentorship to guide students to various resources for support
  • Plan student-oriented events or workshops

Events

  • Plan and host in-person and virtual workshops on various topics relevant to current and prospective HSEWI program students
  • Collaborate with HSEWI program leaders and other departments on campus to organize events and disseminate information about programs (i.e., Center for Career Connections, High School Programs, RISE Learning Institute)
  • Market events via social media, email campaigns, and other communication channels
  • Follow campus procedures to organize events/meetings
  • Support printing and distribution of materials
  • Coordinate RSVP and attendance logs

Data Collection

  • Gather data to help improve in reach and outreach activities; host listening sessions and distribute surveys to solicit student feedback
  • Document participation in marketing efforts
  • Review data collected to identify themes/trends related to student experiences in HSEWI programs
  • Establish ways to assess, measure, and report on social media and virtual marketing efforts
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Currently enrolled in HSEWI Program classes or recent graduate of an HSEWI program (within one (1) year).
  • Must have completed at least one quarter within an HSEWI program.
  • Possess a minimum cumulative college GPA of 2.7 or above.
  • Effective listening skills and ability to communicate clearly.
  • Comfortable speaking on the phone, online and in front of groups sharing their educational journey with others.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with a diverse staff, students and faculty.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to initiate and independently complete tasks and meet established goals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneDrive).
  • Available to participate in events on weekends or in evenings.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Experience with social media and other marketing avenues.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • Experience developing workshops.
  • Bilingual/Multilingual; able to communicate effectively in more than one language.
  • Proficient with virtual conferencing software such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.
