Position Summary  

The Arts & Humanities division is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time tenure track faculty member for Fall 2025 in the Theater Arts/Drama department. The Theater Arts/Drama faculty will perform duties and functions under the general direction of the Provost and shall be responsible primarily to the Dean of Arts & Humanities.

The Bellevue College Theater Arts/Drama program is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time tenure track position of Theater Arts Faculty/Drama professor beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year. The faculty member will teach Drama classes, direct plays and musicals, oversee the design of sets and lights for productions in collaboration with the Technical Director, and mentor and instruct students concentrating in Drama and Theater Arts. In addition, full time faculty are expected to advise students, assist in curriculum development, participate in college governance and initiatives, and maintain currency in their discipline.

The successful candidate must reside in Washington State by the start of the position and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching in person. This includes teaching on the Bellevue College campus and participating in non-teaching duties such as committee service, advising, and professional development activities. While there may be opportunities to teach online or hybrid courses, faculty are expected to maintain a significant presence on campus to support students, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to the college community.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Position Salary Range: $81,757.08/year - $114,664.94/year

Annual salary is based on a 176-day contract with a minimum of $81,757.08; beginning salary will be determined by the assessment of the candidate's education and related experience. New hires start no higher than $87,663.74 unless exceptional circumstances prevail. Certain positions may also be eligible for assignment/project-based additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend up to $8,350 annually, prorated based on the discipline and duration of the assignment. All additional compensations are subject to change depending on funding and negotiated agreement.

About the Department  

The Theater Arts Department of Dance and Drama expands and enriches the learning, life, and culture of all students and faculty of Bellevue College by introducing students and audiences to current, historical, and cultural perspectives. The program provides students opportunities to experience the art of collaboration and performance through a breadth of program offerings in the art and craft of acting, design, directing, play writing and dance. The Theater Arts Program strives to advance student learning goals through the exploration of dramatic literature, and productions advancing toward degree attainment in pre-major courses. Theater Arts provides training and support for movement to conservatory or audition/technical and design work.

The Program produces 3-4 stage plays and/or musicals and 2-3 Dance events annually. Theater Arts also collaborates with the Bellevue College Music Department. Productions are held in Bellevue College Carlson Theater and Stop Gap Studio.

Essential Functions  

Teaching duties include:

• Teach Drama courses that include at least 3 of the following: Acting, Introduction to Theater, Directing, Play writing and Musical Theater.
• Prepare and implement lessons to achieve assigned courses' learning outcomes.
• Ongoing curriculum development, assessment, revision, and implementation through inter- and intra-departmental cooperation and collaboration.
• Maintain knowledge and skills current in discipline and area of assignment.

Non-teaching duties include:

• Oversee all production aspects of each produced Play and Musical.
• Direct Plays and Musicals.
• Participate in department, division, and college governance (such as serving on committees, advising student clubs, and supporting initiatives).
  Participate in the life and culture of the department, division, and college, including the college-wide effort to dismantle barriers that can impact underrepresented and historically marginalized student populations.
• Management of Theater Assets.
• Oversees Drama budget development and implementation of funding for shows and productions.
• Collaborates with other Performing Arts Programs (Dance & Music).

Minimum Qualifications  

• Master of Fine Arts in Drama, or related master's degree.
• High school or college teaching experience in Drama or Theater.
• Willingness and ability to teach in various modalities (face to face, hybrid, online).
• Experience in mentoring or teaching student or volunteer theater workers.
• Demonstrated ability to work in an inclusive manner with diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
• Project management skills.
• Experience with Drama, Dance and Musical Theater Productions.  

Preferred Qualifications  

• Experience with Canvas or another learning management system.
• Experience in preparing and managing production budgets.
