PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The purpose of a Cardiac Services Technologist is to provide Diagnostic Cardiac images efficiently and completely for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatments of anatomical and physiologic disorders under the direction and supervision of the Cardiac Services Physician and Cardiac Services Manager. This position provides patient care. Communicates continuously with physician about patient condition. Assists physician during invasive and noninvasive procedures. Operated all equipment safely and correctly. Maintains PAR levels of instruments, inventory and supplies. Ensures the needs of the department are met. Participates in staff meetings and performance improvement activities.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Duty 1: Consistently selects proper equipment and sets up the room pertaining to the diagnostic department and demonstrates complete working knowledge of all hardware and software.
  • Duty 2: Demonstrates knowledge of the department and management line of authority and follows proper lines of communication. Shows good problem solving skills yet seeks guidance and direction as necessary.
  • Duty 3: Regularly strives to educate themselves about new procedures, equipment, etc. within the diagnostic department and shows willingness to learn new procedures.
  • Duty 4: Coordinates with other departments, physicians and staff to enhance the imaging productivity, customer satisfaction and referral pattern.
  • Duty 5: Adheres to all policies, procedures, rules and regulations as they pertain to the department and/or regulatory agencies.
  • Duty 6: Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety, reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors, confidentiality, as well as demonstrates ability to handle emergency situations during high risk procedures.
  • Duty 7: Regularly enters correct exam requests and codes for radiology procedures that are done in the cardiovascular lab.
  • Duty 8: Consistently maintains adequate inventory for daily operations in the cardiovascular lab.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered by American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)
  • Licensed by the state of Ohio as Radiologic Technologist (ODH)
  • Current ACLS and BCLS certification is required and must be maintained
  • EKG interpretation skills required
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Must have basic computer knowledge
  • Must be able to operate the following equipment: x-ray table, camera, video recorder, ultrasound machines, and pressure injectors
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status.  Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS                                                                           

  • 1-2 years special procedures radiologic experience preferred
  • 2-3 years Cardiac Cath Laboratory work experience preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires full range of body motion with intermittent activities in walking, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, and twisting. The position requires continuous walking and standing for extensive periods of time. The associate must be able to lift 50 or more pounds to assist with direct patient care. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. Individual must have excellent eye/hand coordination and finger dexterity to operate equipment, push and pull patients while providing treatment, and reach work above the shoulders. Associate must have excellent verbal skills to communicate with patients, physicians, and co-workers. This position requires exposure to cold work environment.

This position is classified “at risk” for possible occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.)
