** This posting is for 1 Full-Time Temporary position that may be extended up to 18 months in accordance to Section 18.02 of the Collective Agreement **

Do you have the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment?  Are you a strong team player?  Are you able to provide excellent customer service, with the focus on accounting?

If so, come join us as an Accounting Assistant supporting the Financial Management Branch at the Edmonton Police Service. You will get to apply your knowledge of accounting principles and practices to complete various deadline driven Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes and perform general ledger account reconciliations. Responsibilities will include:

  • Processing accounting transactions (corporate credit cards, and non-PO invoices).
  • Oversee the corporate credit card program.
  • Ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards, and established policies and procedures.
  • Carry out the requirements of the month-end and year-end cut off schedules, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations, journal entries, and other financial reports.
  • Manage the EPS Finance Inbox and respond to customer inquiries.
Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized accounting certificate. 
  • One (1) year of experience in an office environment with a focus on accounting functions. 
  • Knowledge of accounting, and administrative procedures and regulations, including GAAP, FOIP, and GST.
  • Demonstrated advanced competency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to maintain sustained attention to detail in high volume environments.
  • Working knowledge of computer based financial systems. SAP would be an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and accurately under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to contribute as a positive team player in a customer-focused service environment.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent customer service while ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Applicants will be tested.

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, 0800 - 1600 hours, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of variable hours of work program.

Salary Range: 21M, Salary Grade: 013, $31.66 - $39.73 (Hourly), $2,137.30 - $2,682.20 (Bi-Weekly), $55,782.29 - $70,004.90 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
