Description

The City of Edmonton is looking for a highly skilled and strategic Communications Advisor to join our Executive Communications team. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing influential and persuasive communications that articulate vision, strategy and priorities for the Office of the City Manager. 

This role requires exceptional writing, political acumen, and the ability to synthesize complex information into compelling narratives with a consistent tone and voice, often working through executive support and subject matter experts.

What will you do?

  • Develop executive communications strategies and products: Prepare or contribute to a range of high-impact communications, including plans, speeches, key messages, social media content, thought leadership or newsletter articles, internal memos, reports, briefings, emails and presentations
  • Develop strategic narratives: Work closely with supervisors and leadership to define and refine the executive voice and core organizational messaging across various platforms and audiences
  • Collaborate: Foster positive relationships across the organization to coordinate messaging and gather necessary information, technical details and context required for executive materials
  • Demonstrate political acumen and systems thinking: Apply a sophisticated understanding of the internal and external political landscape, organizational dynamics and internal/external interests to all communication materials, using a systems-thinking approach to ensure communications align with broader corporate objectives and anticipate potential impacts
  • Initiate self-generated ideas and initiatives: Apply creativity to finding and considering information, new ideas and present recommendations for suggested projects or material
  • Develop presentations: Craft visually compelling and narratively strong presentations for townhalls, internal or external conferences or meetings, etc.
  • Lead or support profile projects: Identify opportunities for creative tactics to raise reputation or profile and maximize exposure to targeted audiences. Support issues management, media relations and partner-involved event communications
  • Lead or support cross-functional projects: Work independently, leading projects and representing the City of Edmonton to a high professional standard and support other branch colleagues with projects
  • Review and uphold quality control: Review and edit communications drafted by other teams to ensure consistency, clarity, and alignment with the established executive voice and tone. Ensure all communications adhere to the City's Corporate Brand Guidelines and Visual Identity Standards
