The Edmonton Police Service is seeking a motivated Fitness and Active Lifestyle Training Specialist to join the Fitness and Active Lifestyle Unit. This specialized position provides professional expertise in the design, delivery, and evaluation of evidence based strength and conditioning programs that support recruit training, member fitness assessments and training and overall employee wellness.
The Training Specialist delivers recruit physical training programs, administers fitness assessments, develops individualized fitness programming,presents on vaious fitness and lifestyle topics to employees and provides professional recommendations in support of operational readiness, injury prevention, and fitness for duty.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Provide expertise in the design, delivery and evaluation of recruit physical training programs.
- Administer and support annual fitness assessments in accordance with approved protocols.
- Providing personalized fitness training instruction and fitness programs for all levels of employees.
- Assisting in coordinating special events, wellness and active living promotion for all employees.
- Provide professional input and recommendations related to fitness equipment selection, use, and maintenance in EPS facilities.
- University graduation in Recreation Administration or related undergraduate deree and a minimum of five (5) years' experience in the field of community recreation which includes demonstration competency in program development, organization development and provisision of information/referral.
- A specialized interest and experience in a particular discipline (ie: facility opeation, performing arts, isual arts, sports/fitness and multiculturalism) would e an asset.
- This position requires a University degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education or related discipline.
- Professional certification in one or more of the following is required: Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology – Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CSEP CEP),
Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology – Certified Personal Trainer (CSEP-CPT+HPS with High performance Specialization, National Strength and Conditioning Association – Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA CSCS), American College of Sports Medicine – Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM CEP) - Successful candidate who does not hold a CSEP-CEP or ACSM CEP must be able to obtain CSEP-CEP within 12 months of hire.
- A minimum of four (4) years direct related experience in areas such as conducting exercise testing, managing corporate fitness programs, administering mandatory physical training programs for groups or teams, and lifestyle counselling.
- Knowledge of exercise physiology, exercise testing, physical abilities testing, training theory, exercise prescription and counselling.
- Demostrated skills in coaching/counselling adults and ability to instruct physical fitness programs for a variety of diverse individuals
- Strong interpersonal, motivational and customer service skills.
- Effective communication and public presentation skills and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work on a cross sectional team.
- Physical capacity sufficient to safely demonstrate exercises, lead group training sessions, and conduct required fitness assessments.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience may be considered.
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of variable hours of work program.
Salary Range: 21B, Salary Grade: 027, $43.10 - $54.11 (Hourly), $3,448.20 – $4,329.00 (Bi-Weekly), $89,996.98 - $112,987.94 (Annually).
