Join our Fleet Services team and play a vital role in maintaining the City's diverse fleet of heavy equipment. As a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic, you'll be responsible for performing inspections, preventive maintenance, major and light repairs, modifications and overhauls to vehicles and equipment. You'll have the opportunity to utilize your expertise by accurately diagnosing, examining, testing, repairing and rebuilding vehicles and components. What will you do?
- Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, minor and heavy duty repair and overhaul work on all components, including engines, electrical controls and systems, power train, brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions, fueling and other systems
- Follow approved methods and techniques as set out in the manufacturer's manual and shop instructions
- Work within the standard job times for routine work
- Perform basic and complex diagnosis of systems through the use of diagnostic scanning tools, computer software and traditional methods
- Lubricate vehicles and/or ensure lubrication is carried out as required
- Perform Commercial Vehicle Inspections (CVIP), and required Police inspections
- Complete major repair authorization forms, provincial certifications, PM inspection sheets, and other required documentation
- Contribute to ongoing workflow processes by entering data and information into a computerized fleet management system to record job times, work performed and maintenance history
- Assist in the training of apprentices and junior staff
- Adhere to established Safe Work Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, and OH&S and Environmental standards and procedures.
