Are you passionate about fostering meaningful reconciliation and increasing the supply of Indigenous affordable housing in Edmonton? The City of Edmonton is looking for a dedicated Indigenous Housing Liaison to join our Social Development team. Working at the intersection of community partnerships and land development, you will champion the development of culturally appropriate and Indigenous-led affordable housing. In this vital and unique role, you will work collaboratively to build the capacity of Indigenous housing providers by facilitating connections to "shovel-ready" sites, brokering relationships to produce enabling partnerships, and providing advice and support to proponents moving their projects through the development and funding approvals processes. This position will foster and maintain deep relationships within the Indigenous housing sector, including urban Indigenous organizations, Indigenous governments and Treaty organizations. They will support the housing priorities of the City's Indigenous partners, including the development of individual affordable housing projects, housing needs assessments and housing action plans, with a focus on building capacity and leveraging opportunities to scale-up the development of Indigenous-led affordable housing. This position will be required to collaborate closely with internal and external partners in a complex political environment in order to successfully advance the goal of increasing Indigenous affordable housing units through a lens of equity and reconciliation.
What will you do?
- Collaborate with community partners and Indigenous-led housing providers to identify and assess future land and development opportunities for the purpose of increasing the supply of affordable housing in Edmonton
- Develop training, communications and financial tools to build capacity and support the development of indigenous-led affordable housing
- Support policy development exercises related to addressing Indigenous housing need as a subject matter expert
- Supporting grant programs by reviewing applications, determining eligibility, and ensuring compliance with funding terms and strategic outcomes
- Prepare high-level strategic documents, including Business Cases, Project Charters, and reports for Council and senior administration
- Coordinate with internal collaborators and other orders of government to secure funding and align policies with Indigenous housing needs
- Support the implementation of the Affordable Housing Strategy's Indigenous-led affordable housing recommendations.
- Support monitoring and evaluation of these recommendations, using data and "Indigenous ways of knowing" to inform decisions
