If so, then we invite you to apply for the Intermediate Mechanical Engineer position within our Waste Services Branch. In this role, you will provide engineering support to the Edmonton Waste Management Centre (EWMC), ensuring the safe and efficient operation of this critical facility. 

The Intermediate Mechanical Engineer will support Operations and Maintenance, while providing engineering oversight to ongoing project work at the EWMC. The successful candidate will also provide direct engineering support to several high-profile EWMC projects, including the demobilization of the Enerkem biofuels facility and the implementation of an electronic document management system (EDMS)

What will you do?

  • Review technical drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with the Alberta Safety Code and City of Edmonton quality standards 
  • Assist in the development of tender packages, engineering work packages, and construction work packages
  • Actively support consultants and project managers by being on-site and performing field-engineering duties such as taking measurements, photographs, working with stakeholders, leading site visits, and confirming equipment specifications and operating conditions
  • Participate in and provide technical opinions and decisions on plant expansion design reviews  
  • Lead and participate in mechanical completion and commissioning for new capital projects, ensuring systems meet design intent 
  • Identify and plan process equipment modifications, replacements, and rehabilitation 
  • Use documentation from current and historical projects, identify documents for upload into the EDMS
  • Develop procedures and guidelines for uploading documents into the EDMS, including numbering, revisioning, tracking, and progress reporting
  • Work with the Senior Plant Engineer and Operations staff, identify new technologies and resources that could be used to improve production efficiencies and process safety on-site at the EWMC
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as Operations, Maintenance, Collections, Facility Maintenance, Engineering Consultants and General Contractors
  • Work within the corporate framework when undertaking project management and procurement activities such as SAP ECC, SAP Ariba, COE Procurement Best Practices, and the Tech Services project management framework
  • Other duties as assigned
