In this role, you will be at the forefront of urban growth monitoring, communicating critical evidence that drives impactful land use decisions. You'll be a key player supporting the Annual Growth Monitoring Program, transforming data into clear, actionable insights for our city leaders and community partners. What will you do?

  • Use your land use planning expertise and visualization skills to develop, maintain, and create compelling visualizations that tell the story of Edmonton's growth
  • Contribute to the Annual Growth Monitoring Program by drafting concise reports and creating data-driven visualizations that clearly communicate current state as well as growth trends. Topics will include (but not be limited to) changes in housing, land use, density, and/or population
  • Develop work plans and methodologies for land use planning assignments that require spatial analysis
  • Evaluate, develop, and/or improve metrics and indicators that assess if Edmonton is on track to meet the housing and land use targets in The City Plan and other applicable land use policy documents
  • Apply analytical skills to provide meaningful insights and recommendations that go beyond basic planning theory on highly visible land use decisions
  • Prepare communication materials, (e.g. briefing notes, reports, presentations, etc.) for technical and non-technical audiences such as senior administration, the public, consultants, etc.
  • Apply land use planning and data management expertise to improve existing and/or create new urban growth related datasets that match the evolving data needs related to land use planning and residential development in Edmonton
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Human Geography, Economics, or a related discipline with a focus on land use planning, statistical and/or geospatial analysis and research methods
  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible related planning experience

Assets:

  • Designations or specific training in Tableau, Python, FME, or Adobe InDesign

Skills required for success:

  • Strong knowledge of planning principles related to land development, urban growth, and development approvals
  • Standard knowledge of growth monitoring and analysis
  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to translate technical data for non-technical audiences
  • Working knowledge of ESRI GIS software and MS Excel to conduct geospatial and statistical analysis
  • Ability to explore data, test hypotheses, draw sound conclusions, and develop narratives based on the data
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to manage projects and individual assignments effectively

Work Environment:

  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Salary Range: $51.611 - $65.218 (Hourly); $90,925.680 - $114,897.810 (Annually)
