Description

The Park Stewardship Programs team coordinates a number of programs that support environmental awareness, beautification and parkland operations. The Park Stewardship Programs team is looking for a Program Assistant to provide support to the Partners in Parks and Boulevard Gardening programs. 

What will you do?

  • Create engaging online and print media tools for program promotion and communicating to the public via social media platforms, newsletters and other online communications
  • Organize and deliver educational materials and resources through in-person programs, community events, and outreach activities
  • Respond promptly to phone and email inquiries from residents and participants
  • Complete site visits and resource deliveries to program sites
  • Perform inventory assessments, site visits and data collection using various methods
  • Interpret mapping information using Google Maps and AEGIS
  • Maintain materials and equipment used for program delivery
  • Manage program files, ensuring accurate documentation and organization
  • Support program recruitment, training, communications, supply distribution, program logistics and recognition activities
  • Assist in the assessment of overall program effectiveness
  • Track program statistics, evaluate performance metrics and assist with program reporting
  • Support other programs as required
Qualifications

  • Completion of the first year of a recognized related diploma or degree program
  • Experience working in customer service, or with volunteers and/or the general public
  • Possession of valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C or the ability to obtain

Assets: 

  • Experience delivering/presenting educational and/or recreational programs
  • Experience using mapping software ArcGIS, Survey123 or FieldMaps 
  • Experience using online media platforms, and digital marketing platforms and the ability to learn new software systems
  • Experience identifying plants

Skills required for Success:

  • Strong written, oral, presentation and web-based communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Experience using Google Applications

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
  • Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy which may require business auto insurance
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toed boots, is a requirement for this position
  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement

Work Environment:

  • Must have the ability to work a variety of shifts which will include evenings and weekends
  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
