Are you a strategic, systems-thinking professional driven by a passion for environmental and climate resilience? Join us to advance City Council's climate priorities outlined in the City Plan and related strategies.
We are seeking up to two professionals for climate mitigation and adaptation community programming. These collaborative roles manage and implement complex research and programs, requiring a systems-thinking approach and engagement with diverse internal/external stakeholders and advisory boards. Key duties include community outreach, planning, supporting, and improving environmental programs, conducting research and report writing, and evaluating programs to justify future initiatives.
Specific Focus Areas for the Two Positions:
- Position One (Energy & Building Readiness): Focus on analysis and program design for commercial/residential energy retrofits, community renewable energy, and electric vehicle/solar readiness building requirements
- Position Two (Community Capacity & Outreach): Focus on climate resilience community programming capacity building and developing outreach initiatives to advance a culture of sustainability
What will you do?
- Plan, support, and coordinate environmental activities to help meet climate resilience targets set out in the City's climate strategies, such as the City Plan and Climate Resilience Policy C627, and facilitate the initiation of pilot programs
- Develop communications and conduct activities that align objectives with research, best practices, and the City's corporate vision
- Prepare essential program and project management documentation, including reports, project charters, business cases, contract agreements and other governing documents
- Identify evaluation processes, program performance measures and milestones, and manage regular identification and reporting of key performance metrics
- Seek and secure grant funding for Environment & Climate Resilience programs and services
- Collaborate cross-departmentally to ensure corporate alignment and across industry sectors to address concerns, aligning communication with global and local climate initiatives
- Write Council reports and respond to emerging environmental issues and citizen inquiries with recommendations to address concerns
- Identify and provide recommendations as to regulatory and other environmental obligations and offer expert environmental advice to internal partners in setting objectives and improvement initiatives
- Lead integrated marketing campaigns and develop strategies to build positive social norms and promote behavioral changes around acting on climate change
- Coordinate activities, outreach programs, and events to engage internal and external partners in environmental initiatives, supporting climate mobilization and capacity building efforts
- University degree in business administration, political science, environmental sciences, arts, communications, human sciences or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of directly related work experience
Assets:
- Leadership, project management within the environmental and/or climate sector, and community engagement/outreach experience within a public sector environment
Skills required for success:
- Extensive knowledge of and experience in the design, delivery, and management of Environment & Climate Resilience programs and services, including familiarity with work methods and practices related to environmental management systems
- Significant knowledge and experience in strategic and business planning, utilizing a systems thinking approach, and understanding corporate priorities, strategies, initiatives, and associated reporting protocols
- Effective communication skills to convey complex ideas and coordinate data internally and externally to diverse audiences
- Proven skill in the use of analytics and data intelligence to support decision-making, as well as experience preparing and presenting technical briefs and reports for leadership, and knowledge of marketing and promotional activities
- Experience working in an inter-governmental environment with government officials, partners, and collaborators, with a demonstrated ability to integrate strategic planning into operational practice and establish effective work relationships

Work Environment:
- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
