Job Description

Applications will be considered on an as-needed basis determined by department need. This position may close early if the hiring need is filled, or we receive too many applications.

The Dental Hygiene Adjunct Faculty member is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in the clinical setting or laboratory within the Dental Hygiene Program. The adjunct faculty member supports student learning and success through effective teaching strategies, assessment of student performance, professional mentoring, and adherence to program, institutional, and accreditation standards.  

 

Core Responsibilities 

  • Provide clinical and/or lab instruction in the Dental Hygiene Bachelor program. May include nights. Course assignments are at the discretion of the Program Director. 

  • Supports student learning and success through effective teaching strategies, assessment of student performance, professional mentoring, and adherence to program, institutional, and accreditation standards. 

  • Attend faculty development in-services and program review which may include nights and weekends. 

  • Support the goals, missions, and core values of the dental hygiene program by building good relations through clear communication with the director, faculty, and students. 

 

Job Duties 

  • Supervise students during laboratory and clinical experiences to ensure safe and effective patient care. 

  • Evaluate student clinical competencies and ensure compliance with program standards and clinical requirements. 

  • Monitor infection control, safety procedures, and professional conduct within the clinical setting. 

 

Knowledge & Skills 

  • Effective communication strategies, verbal and written in dealing with students and other involved parties. 

  • Possess current and up to date clinical dental hygiene skills - instrumentation 

  • Possess skills in the use of dental & dental hygiene technologies such as paperless charts and digital radiography 

  • Knowledge of the appropriate assigned subject matter and the application of the subject matter for the respective discipline. 

 

Abilities

  • Ability to work with diverse populations. 

  • Ability to engage students in the learning process. 

  • Ability to provide effective teaching and instruction for individuals and groups. 

  • Ability to demonstrate and supervise clinical procedures. 

 

Physical Effort 

  • Ability to work in clinical or laboratory settings for extended periods. 

  • Primarily light physical activity is required with occasional lifting and manipulation of objects up to 25 pounds but may require intermittent lifting of objects up to 40 pounds. 

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene from a CODA Accredited Dental Hygiene program.  

  • 3 years of full-time (3 days a week or more) clinical dental hygiene experience.  

  • Current NV Dental Hygiene License and local anesthesia & nitrous license 

  • Provide all vaccination/titers as required by the Dental Hygiene Program and/or healthcare facilities. 

  • Current CPR 

 

Preferred Requirements 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene or Associate Degree Dental Hygiene with a related bachelor's degree. The dental hygiene degree must be granted from a CODA Accredited Dental Hygiene Program.  

  • 4+ years of full-time (3 days a week or more) clinical dental hygiene experience.  

 

Work Schedule

  • This is an on-site position. 

  • 16-week commitment Fall and Spring, Optional 10-week commitment for Summer. 

  • Essential duties of the role must be performed in-person, during prescribed work hours and may include nights. 
     

Salary Information  

$925 per Instructional Unit for Lecture Classes 

$57.81 per hour of Lab or Clinical Instruction
