The CPMG Medical Specialty Care team provides expert, integrated care with clear treatment plans. Specialty Care Physicians conduct evidence-based, solution-focused assessments and interventions designed to optimize patient care and outcomes. This healthcare model is closely linked to patients' medical care and their care teams, requiring specialized training and experience. The role also includes high-level consultations with other physicians and medical team members.
Sleep medicine primarily involves outpatient practice, concentrating on consultative and management visits for a variety of sleep disorders. This position also entails interpreting sleep studies.

Sleep Medicine Overview
- Reading polysomnograms and home sleep studies.
- Conducting sleep consultations and following up with sleep patients.
- Increasing the use of virtual care, including telephone, email, and video visits, to deliver services across the Denver/Boulder area and the Northern/Southern Front Range.
- Collaborating with other CPMG Sleep Medicine physicians to develop innovative methods of care delivery.
- Working within a small team of providers, where all team members' input is valued, allowing for prompt improvements to the program.
Medical Specialty Responsibilities
- Operate in a fast-paced environment requiring the management of multiple competing demands, the ability to constantly re-prioritize, and the effective communication of relevant information to both patients and the medical team.
- Provide expert integrated specialty care and diagnostic services in a clinical setting.
- Collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team to explore patient health conditions, diagnose health issues, and ensure positive patient experiences.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of cultural competency, particularly regarding how socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, and culture impact physical and emotional health, and how these variables influence the presentation of various concerns in specialty care settings.
- Analyze reports, test results, medical records, and examinations to diagnose patient conditions and propose appropriate treatment options.
- Order laboratory and radiology tests, and refer patients for additional care when necessary.
- Prescribe suitable medications, treatments, and health regimens to address patients' health issues and document medical conditions accurately.
- Discuss potential side effects of medications and treatments with patients, ensuring that all allergy information is current before making prescriptions.
- Provide guidance on dietary and lifestyle changes that may enhance health or address specific health issues.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
- Record complete and timely entries in electronic medical records.
- Utilize electronic health records and verbal communication to relay pertinent information to staff and patients efficiently.
- Foster collaboration and open communication between primary and specialty care as outlined in the Primary Care-Specialty Care Master Service Agreement.
- Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, objectives, ongoing quality improvement goals, as well as safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Qualifications Required
- M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school in the United States.
- Successful completion of residency at an accredited healthcare institution.
- Fellowship training in sleep medicine is required, and candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in sleep medicine.
