OF A PERMANENT CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OF

LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)

This position may be filled as:

PROMOTION : This position may be filled as a detail. Should the position become available, the employee may be permanently promoted to this position.

This position has a Special Entrance Rate of $51.28 per hour.

There is Premium Pay at a rate of$5.00 per hour for each hour worked, in addition to regular pay.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) stateplusfive years of professional nursing experience.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

A baccalaureate degree in nursing will substitute for one year of the required experience.

A master's degree in nursing or public health will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Specialized degrees less than a doctorate will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

A doctorate in nursing or public health will substitute for two years of the required experience.

Specialized degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience.

NOTE:

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

FUNCTION OF WORK:

To serve as the principal assistant to a Director of Nursing within a facility or to serve as the assistant to the Director of Nursing of all statewide public health nursing components for all public health programs.

LEVEL OF WORK:

Administrator.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General from a Registered Nurse of a higher level or other higher level personnel.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Direct line over Registered Nurse Managers, Supervisors, and lower level personnel.

LOCATION OF WORK:

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from RN Assistant Director of Nursing A by the size of the facility, supervisory, and/or programmatic responsibilities.

Differs from RN Director of Nursing A or B by the absence of serving as the director of nursing services within a facility or as the Director of Nursing of all statewide public health nursing programs.

EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Serves as assistant to the Nursing Director of a large facility.

Makes daily rounds of nursing units and may provide direct patient care on complex cases.

Assumes the duties of Nursing Director in her/his absence.

Assists in planning and directing nursing services for the hospital and coordinates activities with other hospital departments.

Determines staffing requirements for nursing division, including professionals and paraprofessionals.

Develops area operation policies, procedures, and standards of care in accordance with overall hospital and accreditation committee policies.

Ensures patient care standards are maintained by supervising and directing activities of subordinate nurses and by participating in quality assurance activities.

Serves as consultant to clinical supervisors on technical and disciplinary issues.

Develops and monitors nursing division budget, and maintains statistics on division activities and patient census.

Reviews master staffing roster to ensure adequate nursing coverage of all units or wards.

Recommends hiring and dismissal of employees.

Initiates, participates in, and evaluates special studies
