The purpose of the Dollar General Distribution Center Operations Intern Program is to provide participants with practical and rewarding experiences that develop leadership and operational skills within the supply chain field. Participants in the 10-week paid internship will help manage and streamline day to day operations for timely receipt, stocking, order filling and shipment of merchandise.

 

The internship will conclude with a trip to our corporate office to present a process improvement project to Dollar General executives.

 

Our program provides students with:
• A 10-week in-person experience in a distribution center.
• Weekly rotations in the warehouse departments (i.e., Inbound, Outbound, Maintenance, Transportation, Human Resource, etc.).
• Opportunities to work on a virtual team with fellow interns on a network-wide project and present their recommendations in-person to senior leaders.
• A mentorship with a member of their DC's leadership team.
• Exposure to corporate and retail roles at Dollar General through guest speakers.
• Community service opportunity.
• Networking opportunities with executives.

Job Details:

Interns can be involved in nearly every aspect of the distribution center operations, but please note – interns should not be involved in hiring or termination decisions, conducting investigations, or administering counseling/coaching to employees.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated employee relations skills and skills necessary to assist employees in conflict resolution and one-to-one communication.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate or graduate business student with/or pursuing major in Supply Chain Management.
  • Solid analytical skills and self-motivated.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Handle multiple activities simultaneously and ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Tools: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to physically move throughout the distribution center to monitor the flow of merchandise.
  • Exposure to dust varied lighting and noise.
  • Some heavy lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling may be required to assist employees when necessary.
Display Pay Rate: New Hire Starting Pay Rate: $22.00* ‎‎ : *Eligible for a $0.70/hour shift differential if assigned to weekend shift and a $2.00/hour differential if assigned to the freezer department.
