Responsible for evaluating, coordinating and reviewing implementations of systems and processes that support the distribution centers, Transportation systems, logistics operations, and all applications associated with these major areas. Strategic planning, budgeting, personnel management, team leadership, vendor interface, prioritization of development, and user liaison constitute the job requirements. This role entails direct management and supervision of the development and third-tier support of Supply Chain technologies. It requires the successful development of a team encompassing Directors, Managers, Leaders, Technical Architects, and team members who will effectively oversee product and project level work while providing guidance on novel technical development methods and industry best practices.

 

The position necessitates management of multiple projects and problems of various complexity levels. This role also involves partnering with external vendors, contractors, and offshore teams to acquire talent and technologies not developed internally.

 

Moreover, this role oversees the engineering team's efforts in optimizing Supply Chain processes, reducing overall costs, and enhancing operational efficiencies while ensuring alignment with the company's wider business objectives. The position will be responsible for managing budgets for Supply Chain technologies.

Job Details:
  • Act as a strategic leader and liaison between Information Systems, Distribution and Logistics Management.  Identify, prioritize, develop and implement technology solutions which improve business processes, enhance productivity, reduce cost, and drive efficiency and profitability. 
  • Work closely with Business, Product and program teams to ensure timely and quality Business deliverables.
  • Identify, provide, and track training and developmental programs for staff to enhance their technology expertise and/or professional growth. 
  • Identify, evaluate, coordinate, and develop technologies and strategies to support distribution centers and the Transportation group.
  • Communicate with the various departments within Dollar General to enhance the sharing of information between systems. Partner with vendors to develop a strong working relationship and enhance productivity of all outside software and services for the most efficient process. 
  • Manage direct reports to include a review and evaluation of work and overall performance.
  • Work closely with Business and Product teams to build Technical roadmaps for the area.
  • Initiate or be part of application architecture reviews and advisory boards with cross functional technology teams inclusive of platform, data science and devops.
  • Manage annual capital and expense budget and monthly reporting.
Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Working knowledge of technology within an automated distribution operation as applied to the logistics/distribution sector
  • Working knowledge of transportation and transportation systems as applied to the logistics sector
  • Working knowledge of Labor management system
  • Working knowledge of Yard Management system
  • Ability to build strategic plans and present a vision to peers and senior management
  • Familiarity with development tools and methodologies selected to develop software for the distribution centers and transportation group
  • Management skills with the ability to hire and direct highly motivated, well performing employees; set goals, counsel team members on development and performance opportunities, and to resolve conflict
  • Ability to coordinate and direct outside resources
  • Ability to delegate and follow-up, with emphasis on adhering to deadlines
  • Ability to create and maintain an open working relationship between distribution systems department and all other  departments including other functional areas, Product teams, Programs team and infrastructure teams.

  • Excellent Technology skills and the ability to lead multiple projects of increasing complexity from inception through completion. Projects may include complex cross product integrations.
  • Ability to motivate, reward, and provide constructive criticism and corrective action.

Work Experience and/or Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Twelve years of experience in warehouse management systems, inventory control systems, distribution systems, and/or logistics systems.
  • Six years management/leadership experience in a project-oriented environment required.
  • Prior experience in leading groups of 10 or more people, with at least 6 direct reports
  • 10+ years of objected oriented programming for software
  • 10 years of design inclusive of scalability, disaster recovery, resiliency, obsolescence security, supportability, and suitability.
  • 4+ years of working with and managing offshore resources
  • Proven track record of managing large, complex supply chains.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in supply chain management software and other relevant technologies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to rapid change.
