Description

The Maintenance Superintendent for Turnarounds (TAR) and Non-Routine Maintenance (NRM) Cost works under the direction of the Maintenance Director.  This role provides leadership and management support of cost control activities for the Houston Region TAR and NRM cost group.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  

  • Manage supervisors, cost coordinators, and cost analysts assigned to the TAR and NRM cost group
  • Set clear expectations holding themselves and others accountable
  • Identify and secure direct hire and contract labor resources required to meet business needs
  • Work with department management, Enterprise Human Resources, and Enterprise contingent labor management group to address and satisfy Enterprise HR issues and requirements for all direct reports
  • Develop and maintain positive, effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Communicate and coordinate cost activities with Project Management, Planning, Scheduling, FE, Capital Projects, Operations, Maintenance, Accounting, Supply Chain, and other groups, as necessary
  • Adapt to things outside their control and influence where necessary
  • Oversee annual budgeting activities for TAR and NRM maintenance projects
  • Provide oversight of consolidated cost tracking methods for HRO TAR and NRM events
  • Supply ad hoc analysis of Turnarounds and/or NRM cost or cost-related data, as requested
  • Ensure deliverables are properly submitted to all stakeholders
  • Maintain TAR and NRM NAFE / AFE process and serve as subject matter expert
  • Lead the development, continuous improvement, and consistent implementation of maintenance cost control processes
  • Make us more efficient making the most effective use of available technology, i.e. Oracle, OBI, Toadfly, Primavera, Power BI, AI, and Enterprise Data Services group
  • Other responsibilities as required 


Requirements

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in turnaround cost in the oil and gas and/or petrochemicals industry
  • Experience with budgets, code of accounts, actual cost tracking, cost forecasting, and cost change management
  • Thorough understanding of accrual, capital, and cash flow accounting
  • Experience and understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM)
  • Fundamental understanding of turnaround planning, scheduling, and progress measurement
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Oracle E-Business Suite financial module is required
  • Able to manage assignments individually or in a collaborative team setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead a project cost team and foster effective working relationships with groups outside of TAR and NRM
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate at various levels within the organization, both verbally and in writing
  • Comfortable providing confident, insightful feedback affecting strategic level discussions
