Dispatcher – First StudentFirst Student is hiring for a Dispatcher position to support our daily transportation operations. We are looking for individuals with a background in dispatching and route coordination who can manage schedules, handle communications, and assist in maintaining safe and timely service.
Pay Rate: $20.00 per hour
Schedule: Split shift, with an early start time between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM
Oversee the daily scheduling and dispatching of bus routes
Provide guidance and support to drivers and monitors
Manage radio and phone communications, often in a high-volume environment
Respond to and escalate driver or scheduling concerns as needed
Communicate directly with contracted clients to ensure service expectations are met
Assist with charters, billing, and driver payroll
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to pick-ups, drop-offs, or route changes
Perform backup driving or clerical work when necessary
Support daily operations and contribute to special projects as assigned
3–5 years of experience in dispatch, routing, terminal operations, or a similar field
High school diploma or equivalent
Basic understanding of radio dispatch systems and related technology
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet time-sensitive deadlines
Basic computer literacy
Must pass DOT drug screening and physical
(Note: DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 prohibits the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana)
This is a team-oriented role within a busy transportation terminal. The work requires multitasking, problem-solving, and consistent communication with staff and clients. The split-shift structure includes early morning hours and afternoon responsibilities, with downtime during mid-day hours.
