Job SummaryTo support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we're looking to add a Subject Matter Expert – Taxation located in Chennai location.
The Subject Matter Expert – Taxation will initiate and execute end-to-end GST and TDS activities, covering statutory compliance, transaction-level validations, reconciliations, tax computations, payments, return filings, audit support and technical analysis. The role requires strong hands-on experience in handling complex and high-volume transactions, with the ability to independently identify tax issues, drive resolution and ensure accurate, timely and audit-ready compliance.

What a typical day looks like:
GST:
- Initiate and execute end-to-end GST compliance across assigned GST registrations, from transaction-level data extraction and validation through tax computation, payment and statutory return filing.
- Extract and validate sales registers, purchase registers and GST GL data from ERP and identify transaction-level exceptions prior to return preparation.
- Prepare and file GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, including validation of taxable turnover, output tax liability, ITC, RCM, amendments and debit/credit notes.
- Perform invoice-level GSTR-2B vs. Purchase/ITC register reconciliation, identify missing/unmatched invoices, tax/value differences and initiate corrective actions.
- Review ITC eligibility at transaction level, including blocked/ineligible credits, reversals, re-availment and other applicable ITC adjustments.
- Identify transactions liable under Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM), validate applicable tax treatment, compute liability and ensure appropriate payment and ITC recognition.
- Perform GSTR-1 vs. Books, GSTR-3B vs. Books and GST GL vs. statutory return reconciliations and initiate timely closure of reconciling items.
- Validate HSN/SAC classification, GST rates, Place of Supply, GSTIN, tax codes and other GST master data impacting tax determination.
- Review transaction-level compliance relating to e-invoicing and e-way bills, including cancellations, amendments, exceptions and data mismatches.
- Validate GST treatment of exports, imports, SEZ/zero-rated supplies, intercompany/related-party transactions, stock transfers, debit notes and credit notes.
- Track vendor-related ITC mismatches/non-reflection in GSTR-2B and coordinate with AP, Procurement and relevant stakeholders for resolution.
- Prepare annual GST reconciliations and GSTR-9 /9C requirements, including reconciliation of turnover, tax liability and ITC with financial books.
- Initiate preparation of invoice-level data, reconciliations, ledgers and supporting documentation for GST audits, assessments, notices and departmental proceedings.
- Analyze complex transactional scenarios, identify GST exposure, compliance gaps and potential tax leakage, and initiate corrective actions.
- Monitor regulatory changes and initiate necessary process, system, master-data and control changes to ensure continued compliance.
TDS:
- Initiate and execute end-to-end TDS compliance, covering transaction review, tax deduction, payment, quarterly return preparation and statutory filing.
- Determine appropriate TDS sections, rates, thresholds and applicability for domestic transactions, including complex or non-routine payments.
- Perform Books vs. TDS returns vs. tax payment/challan reconciliations and initiate resolution of short deduction, non-deduction and other exceptions.
- Prepare/review quarterly TDS returns, correction returns and TDS certificates and ensure closure of PAN and other compliance exceptions.
- Review overseas payments/remittances for withholding tax implications under the Income-tax Act and applicable DTAA provisions, including relevant supporting documentation.
- Initiate responses and corrective actions for TDS notices, defaults and statutory queries, and coordinate with relevant stakeholders for closure.
Audit, Controls & Process Improvement:
- Initiate and provide tax reconciliations, schedules and supporting documentation for Statutory Audit, Tax Audit, Cost Audit and Internal Audit.
- Proactively coordinate with Finance, AP, Procurement, Treasury, Logistics, IT and business teams for timely collection of data and resolution of tax exceptions.
- Maintain compliance calendars, trackers, SOPs, reconciliations and audit-ready documentation with appropriate supporting evidence.
- Identify tax risks, compliance gaps and potential tax leakage and initiate corrective and preventive actions.
- Drive automation, digitalization, data analytics and exception-based compliance monitoring across GST and TDS activities.
The experience we're looking to add to our team:
- B.Com / M.Com / CA Inter / CMA Inter or equivalent qualification with relevant taxation experience; professional qualification would be an advantage.
- 5–8 years of hands-on taxation experience, predominantly in GST with working expertise in TDS.
- Strong hands-on experience in handling complex, high-volume and transaction-intensive GST/TDS environments is essential.
- Experience in handling multiple GST registrations, large transaction datasets, complex reconciliations, audits, assessments and departmental proceedings is preferred.
- Candidates with prior taxation experience in the manufacturing sector will be strongly preferred, considering the complexity of supply-chain transactions, movement of goods, ITC, e-way bills, imports/exports and other manufacturing-related tax requirements.
- Experience in a large corporate, multinational or multi-location environment would be an added advantage.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Excel and ERP system; exposure to tax automation and analytical tools is desirable
