Ideal position for applicants interested in the legal field or considering law school. FSA has an immediate opening for a highly motivated individual at the United States Attorneys Office in Portland, ME. Ideal candidates will have exceptional written and oral communication skills, a demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and be a "team-player". This position is ideal for recent college graduates planning to attend law school in the near future. Successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of on-going cases. A Paralegal I performs, but is not limited to the following duties:
- Provide Apprentice examination of legal instruments
- Review legal instruments (completeness of information, proper execution)
- Conduct research and obtain additional information related to specific cases
- Determine correctness of action (per Government regulations, procedures, etc)
- Research records (to ascertain conditions that might preclude action)
- Provide assistance on instruments
- Provide information on instruments
- Gather facts for cases and routine reports
- Perform initial review of petitions
- Verify citations and legal references on legal documents
- Proficiency with numerous software including IPRO, CASEMAP, QUICKBOOKS, and MICROSOFT SUIT
Requirements
A Paralegal I must meet the following qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED; Four year undergraduate degree preferred
- Attention to detail and the ability to read and follow directions
- Good oral and written communications skills
- Must have 1 year's experience in a related field.
- Must possess a demonstrated ability to analyze documents to extract selected information.
