A Paralegal IV performs, but is not limited to the following duties:

  • Assist with the district's efforts in investigating qui tam complaints and other civil fraud matters.
  • Examine documents such as medical and financial records, reports, various correspondence, and computer data in order to identify patterns and verify or create relationships between new and existing facts/parties/evidence. Provide attorneys with investigative plans and conclusions necessary for successful litigation.
  • Devise methodologies for obtaining evidence, evidence preservation, and trial presentation of evidence.
  • Provide recommendations and overall assistance to AUSAs on document compilation, physical evidence, demonstratives, and audio-visual materials that may be used for motions or trial.
  • Assist AUSAs in the organization and tracking of incoming evidence and related correspondence, including but not limited to productions pursuant to subpoenas and civil investigative demands. Coordinate effectively with office litigation technology staff for the maintenance and review of the same.
  • Conduct in-house, telephone and database research.
  • Analyze fact patterns and communicate findings to AUSAs.
  • Assist in obtaining documents and other information related to cases.
  • Perform and report on research to locate potential witnesses.
  • Communicate with witnesses, persons of interest, and local/state/federal agency representatives to gather facts, collective sequence of events/statements and perform overall investigations. Maintain case file on the same.
  • Purge closed ACE cases per office policy.
  • The contractor must have good communication and organizational skills, the ability to deliver high quality work under pressure, and knowledge of software used by the USAO (or the ability to acquire knowledge about the USAO's computer systems).
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Paralegal Studies; or bachelor's degree in another Field with a Paralegal Certificate; or Possess a paralegal certificate with additional 3 years' paralegal experience or HS Diploma with additional 4 years paralegal experience.
  • At least 3 years of paralegal experience required.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Sound working knowledge of legal system, legal research procedures, and sources of information.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, analytic ability, and thorough knowledge of legal research tools.
  • Hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, and telecommunications.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate

This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a 7 (or 10) year minimum background investigation.
