Sola Academy by Fusion, an ISBE-approved therapeutic day school serving students with disabilities in grades 6–12, has an opening for a Reading Specialist. 

This position partners with students, families, and staff to address behavioral and social-emotional needs that impact learning, fostering student safety, self-regulation, and positive engagement through functional behavioral assessment, individualized intervention planning, crisis response, and staff coaching.

What You'll Do:

• Deliver structured, multi-sensory reading intervention using the Wilson Reading System to students with dyslexia and significant reading disabilities.
• Tailor lessons, assignments, and assessments to each student's IEP while meeting curriculum standards.
• Set clear reading goals and document progress through learning artifacts and data collection.
• IEP & Case Management
• Maintain accurate session notes, grades, and parent communication after each class.
• Track data toward IEP reading goals and formally report progress four times per year.
• Prepare updated IEP drafts ahead of annual reviews; collaborate with each student's IEP team, including outside providers.
• Family & Campus Partnership
• Build genuine, proactive relationships with parents and guardians.
• Collaborate with paraprofessionals, administrators, and related-service providers to support case-load students.
• Participate in Staff, Department, and IEP meetings.

What We're Looking For: 

• Current Illinois state licensure as a special education teacher.
  Required: Wilson Reading System® (WRS) certification, Level I or higher.
• Preferred: Orton-Gillingham (OG) trained, in addition to Wilson certification.
• Strong working knowledge of the IEP process and special education law
• Understanding of learning differences; ability to mentor as a positive role model.
• Self-directed and organized, with the patience and compassion to connect with students.
