Fusion Education Group is a fast-growing organization with a nationwide network of private middle and high schools (grades 4–12). We're seeking a hands-on VP of Finance / Controller to lead all accounting and transactional finance functions for our rapidly growing, multi-site, multi-state organization. Reporting to the CFO, this role is critical to building scalable financial infrastructure, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring compliant, lender-ready reporting. As a hands-on leader, you will balance high-level strategic financial planning with deep engagement in day-to-day accounting, including month-end close, cash management, and lender covenant compliance.

 

Work Type - Hybrid

Pay Range - $185,000 - $225,000 (US)

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Hands-On Accounting & Close: Lead the accounting team to own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across all entities/sites to deliver timely, accurate, GAAP-compliant financial statements.
  • Multi-State/Multi-Site Consolidation: Oversee intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and consolidation across multiple service lines and states. Ensure proper revenue recognition and expense management for all locations.
  • Lender/Debt Management: Proactively manage lender relationships and compliance with all debt covenants and reporting obligations. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual debt compliance documents and monitor liquidity.
  • PE Sponsor Reporting: Deliver timely financial reporting packages to PE sponsors and Board of Directors, including EBITDA analysis, variance reports, and operational KPIs.
  • Cash Flow & Treasury: Manage daily cash flow forecasting, treasury operations, and working capital to ensure operational liquidity.
  • Internal Controls & Scalability: Establish, maintain and document robust internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard assets and mitigate risks as the business scales.
  • Acquisition Integration: Lead the financial integration of new acquisitions, including opening balance sheet validation and ERP system mapping.
  • Tax & Audit: Act as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and state taxing authorities.

Desired Skills and Experience:

 

  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory capacity, ideally in a Private Equity-backed, multi-site environment.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
  • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of GAAP (ASC 606/842/805) and proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Great Plains).
  • Mindset: "Roll-up-your-sleeves" approach; proactive and hands-on leader comfortable working with detailed location-level data while supporting high-level strategy.
  • Acquisitive Mindset: Experience in high-growth, acquisitive companies (M&A) is strongly preferred.

Work Type:

 

Reporting to the CFO, this position is based in Grand Rapids, MI at our corporate offices and will be hybrid with a split of the person's time requiring them in the office a few days a week and remote work otherwise.

Pay Range

USD $185,000.00 - USD $225,000.00 /Yr.
