Project Manager - Construction

How You'll Make an Impact at Intertek

As a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Project Manager, you will play a key role in leading large-scale construction materials testing projects while ensuring exceptional client service, project quality, and financial performance. You will serve as the primary point of contact for clients, oversee field and laboratory operations, and guide project teams to successful project completion. In this leadership role, you will supervise and coordinate technical personnel, provide project oversight, and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company and client requirements

The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who can effectively manage projects, develop technical staff, build strong client relationships, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee large Construction Materials Testing (CMT) projects from initiation through closeout.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities for additional services and project growth.
  • Review project setup, scope, schedules, and budgets to ensure successful execution.
  • Prepare and review complex proposals, contracts, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate and direct technical and administrative teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Perform contract review and negotiation activities, engaging Legal and Principal Consultants when necessary.
  • Monitor project budgets, costs, and profitability, including change order management.
  • Review, prepare, and submit invoices while assisting with billing and collections activities.
  • Review and sign test reports, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee laboratory testing progress and field operations.
  • Schedule and dispatch field personnel based on project needs and priorities.
  • Attend client and project meetings and provide regular project updates.
  • Train, mentor, and develop field and laboratory staff.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to technicians, inspectors, and laboratory personnel.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of technicians, inspectors, and project support staff.
  • Exercise sound judgment in adapting project plans and technical requirements to meet client and project needs.
  • Perform equipment calibrations and assist with quality audits as needed.
  • Ensure project quality, client satisfaction, and compliance with company standards and safety requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, technicians, project managers, and senior leadership.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to safety and adherence to company policies and procedures.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Significant experience managing large Construction Materials Testing (CMT) projects.
  • Strong field experience with:
    • Concrete testing
    • Reinforcing steel (rebar) inspections/testing
    • Soils testing
    • Driven/Displacements Pile Foundation Projects 
  • Proven experience supervising and scheduling 10 or more field technicians.
  • Minimum three (3) years of project management experience in Construction Materials Testing (CMT), civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, or related construction services.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects using established technical procedures, company standards, and sound professional judgment.
  • Experience supervising, coordinating, mentoring, and scheduling technical personnel.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials testing procedures, construction practices, project specifications, and field operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in project scheduling, staffing, budgeting, invoicing, and financial management.
  • Strong leadership, team management, and personnel development skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and client relationship management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with changing project conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
  • ACI, NICET, ICC, or other CMT-related certifications preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of combined Construction Materials Testing and/or Project Management experience.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to frequently lift, push, pull, and move 30 to 50 pounds; occasionally more than 50 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to hear, understand, and effectively respond to detailed verbal communication.
• Ability to kneel, squat, stand, and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
• Ability to occasionally climb and work at elevated heights.
• Ability to work overnight and off-shift hours as required
