PURPOSE OF POSITION:
- This position will oversee and manage medium to large-scale maintenance projects that directly impact a significant number of farms within Iowa Select Farms. The primary focus is to ensure the timely, cost-effective, and efficient execution of maintenance-related projects, while maintaining alignment with organizational goals and values. This position will coordinate with various teams, including farm operations, maintenance staff, and vendors, to deliver projects that improve infrastructure and operational efficiency across the farms. The Project Manager will be responsible for assigning tasks, tracking progress, mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance with safety, biosecurity, and environmental standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Project Oversight & Execution:
- Manage and lead large-scale maintenance projects, ensuring that all milestones, deadlines, and budgets are met.
- Develop project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and project scope, and update regularly based on project needs and challenges.
- Ensure all projects are aligned with Iowa Select Farms' overall goals for infrastructure improvement and operational efficiency.
- Team Coordination & Task Assignment:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure clear communication and task delegation.
- Supervise maintenance teams, vendors, and contractors, assigning specific roles and ensuring efficient workflow.
- Maintain regular communication with farm managers and other stakeholders to ensure project alignment with farm operational needs.
- Project Management:
- Monitor project performance and adjust plans as necessary to stay on track for successful completion.
- Identify and mitigate potential project risks, proactively addressing issues before they become roadblocks.
- Review and approve work orders, purchase orders, and other necessary documentation to facilitate project execution.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Ensure all projects comply with Iowa Select Farms' safety, biosecurity, and animal welfare standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of project sites to assess progress, quality of work, and adherence to safety guidelines.
- Ensure that all maintenance work is performed according to applicable regulations and best practices, including environmental and sustainability considerations.
- Budget and Resource Management:
- Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring costs are kept within allocated limits.
- Coordinate with purchasing and supply chain teams to ensure timely procurement of materials and resources for maintenance projects.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior leadership, highlighting project status, potential issues, and key milestones.
- Maintain accurate records of all project-related activities, including budgets, timelines, and any changes to project scope.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Evaluate project outcomes and identify opportunities for process improvements, cost-saving initiatives, and increased efficiency.
- Provide feedback and suggestions to senior management on how to improve maintenance operations and project execution.
- Leadership & Mentoring:
- Lead by example in demonstrating Iowa Select Farms' core values, including respect, accountability, and good decision-making.
- Mentor and develop junior project managers or maintenance staff, ensuring ongoing professional development within the team.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is performed indoors as well as outdoors.
- This job operates in an office that is climate controlled and includes hazards typical to that environment.
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations.
- The environment you will be working in may have nuisance levels of gases and dust, particularly in the winter months
PHYSICALITY REQUIREMENTS
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
- Ability to read and write.
- The employee must have the ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds along with climbing up ladders and over gates.
- The employee must be able to continuously repeat necessary movements such as bending, lifting and different hand movements as needed to complete tasks.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
- This is a full-time position that will typically require at least 40 hours a week.
- Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges.
- Occasional evening hours and weekend work may be required as the job duties demand.
TRAVEL.
- 50% travel is required for this position with a company vehicle (home every night).
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual requirements – none
- Project Management Experience: At least 3 years of experience managing maintenance-related projects, with a proven track record of overseeing complex projects from initiation to completion.
- Technical Expertise in Maintenance: In-depth knowledge of maintenance systems, including preventive and corrective maintenance practices for facilities, equipment, or machinery. Hands-on experience with maintenance management software (e.g., CMMS, SAP) is highly preferred.
- Budget & Cost Control: Proven ability to manage and track project budgets, control costs, and implement cost-saving measures while maintaining project quality and timelines.
- Team Leadership: Experience leading cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, and subcontractors, with the ability to motivate, guide, and evaluate team performance.
- Risk Management: Ability to assess risks in projects and operations, proactively identify potential issues, and implement mitigation plans to minimize disruptions or delays.
- Vendor & Contractor Management: Experience in selecting, negotiating with, and managing external vendors or contractors for project execution, ensuring work is completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Regulatory Knowledge & Compliance: Familiarity with relevant industry regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements (e.g., OSHA, ISO), ensuring all maintenance projects meet legal and safety guidelines.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to report project status, timelines, and risks
- Problem Solving & Decision Making: Experience in troubleshooting and resolving maintenance-related issues or project bottlenecks in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Quality Assurance: Experience with quality control procedures, ensuring that maintenance work adheres to established standards and best practices.
