Kamehameha Schools Maui Campus is seeking an Internship Coordinator to join the College and Career Support team to help guide and grow campus internship programs. This position plays a key role in supporting haumāna (students) as they build real‑world skills and prepare for life beyond high school.

Job Summary

Establishes and manages relationships with educational leaders, community partners, and business and industry professionals to create and sustain internship and career pathways for Native Hawaiian high school students and graduates. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to support sustainable programming that promotes student success, foster alignment across program efforts, and ensure the coordinated use of shared resources. This role requires flexibility, teamwork, and a strong commitment to student achievement. Maintains regular and frequent contact across all organizational levels—both internally and externally—to educate stakeholders, implement programs and policies, and ensure alignment with institutional requirements and Hawai‘i's job market projections. 

Essential Responsibilities
 

Placement Acquisition and Maintenance

  • Identify, cultivate, and maintain partnerships with a wide range of businesses, professionals, community organizations, and employment sites to actively seek and provide career development experiences – such as internships and apprenticeships – for both alumni and current campus students.

  • Facilitate employer engagement by providing industry outreach programs to educate and manage expectations. 

  • Conduct site visits and communicate regularly with site supervisors while monitoring student and employer engagement. 

  • Annually evaluate experiential programs and placements to ensure quality and intervene early to address and alleviate any concerns.

  • Provide career exploration opportunities within current programming to support student growth and career readiness, including experiences such as career presentations, skill workshops, and site visits.

  • Effectively communicate to all stakeholders with clear and concise programming, goals and expectations.  
     

Student Education and Support

  • Develop and refine programming appropriate for campus and community needs to provide essential foundations and skills for students exploring various career pathways.

  • Develop and deliver educational and informational programming to increase students' and parents' awareness of various work-based learning pathways and to ensure successful participation and outcomes.

  • Recruit students to participate in the program, ensuring that they clearly understand and can meet all requirements.

  • Support students with a foundational work skills training throughout their placement (pre, during and post), ensuring that students receive support to understand the intricacies of a professional work setting important for job obtainment and success in a variety of work settings.

  • Provide students with mentoring and job coaching throughout the program designed to foster success and long-term career planning.
     

Program Administration and Coordination

  • Communicates opportunities, expectations, timelines and outcomes to internal and external audiences.

  • Develop resources for students and parents that clearly outlines expectations and policies.

  • Ensure the appropriateness of an application process to determine the student's placement regarding required hours, scope, relevance, and level of responsibility.

  • Communicate with and provide updates to parents of students in the program.

  • Assist in acquiring various program placements, including academic year and summer.
     

Tracking/Assessment/Reporting

  • Works with manager and various stakeholders to create and operationalize strategic direction through implementing, assessing, and monitoring progress to increase the reach and impact for Native Hawaiian learners.

  • Maintain database administration for purposes of tracking and assessing the effectiveness of the program.

  • Conducts pre and post assessments of all stakeholders to evaluate programs and outcomes for continuous improvement, developing and revising policies and procedures as needed.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Business Administration, Humanities, Human Resources, Communications or related fields.

  • Minimum of 5 years program management or related experience.

  • Must be a self-starter and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to handle multiple assignments, complex tasks while adhering to timelines and deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, plan, organize and work independently and as well as part of a team.

  • Ability to research and quickly develop knowledge of employer recruiting strategies, job market trends, occupational, career and personal growth, and turn this knowledge into streamlines student focused programs.

  • Collaborate and assist other postsecondary success staff with various events and activities throughout year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of Hawai'i labor laws, work permits and certificates for minors. 

  • Exhibits excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to adapt messaging to a wide variety of audiences and learners.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity.

  • Proven ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment.

  • Strong consulting skills to included analytical, problem solving, communication, facilitation, negotiation and influence.

  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school staff and the public.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and/or skill in organizational competencies of accountability, change effectiveness, collaboration and teamwork, communication, Hawaiian cultural commitment, and innovation.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.

  • Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

  • Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.

Working Conditions (including environmental conditions)   

  • This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.

  • Work is conducted in an office environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.

  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but may be conducted in evenings and weekends, as necessary.
