Description
The Health Information Supervisor leads and monitors the day-to-day operations of the staff in Health Information Processing in coordination with the Manager/Director. Daily operations may include: the release of information, record processing, physician's incomplete area, scanning, coding/abstracting and transcription services.
Essential Duties:
- UNDER THE SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION OF THE HIM DIRECTOR/MANAGER: • Provides hands-on coverage. • Leads and monitors the day-to-day operations of the HIM staff. • Coordinates the entire chart retrieval process.
- RESPONSIBLE FOR: • Monitoring all functions affecting how records are processed timely into the Electronic Health Record system. • The addressing and implementing a workflow that will utilize the clerical time more efficiently. • The accurate and timely distribution of dictated reports.
- LEADERSHIP • Conducts daily monitoring of the day-to-day operations of the respective shift of the HIM Dept. Establishes clear job requirements for employees by overseeing the orientation of new employees and maintaining current position descriptions and measurable performance standards. • Oversees the daily supervision for all functions of the respective shift so quality services are provided within department standards. • Closely monitors employee daily productivity and quality to assure standards are met and provides reporting of productivity and quality findings to employee and management at least monthly. • Conducts hiring, training, counseling, and assignment of work to staff members with Manager/Director's approval. • Conducts performance evaluations of employees (within one week of due date) with Manager/Director's approval. • Conducts minimum monthly meetings. Communicates hospital and department policies and procedures to subordinates. • Provides coverage of department functions during times of illness, vacations, etc.
- POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: • Ability to implement policies and procedures by effectively working with personnel. • Ability to evaluate systems to determine whether or not current policies and procedures are functioning and makes recommendations to the director for changes.
- EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS • Maintains equipment and work area as directed. • Able to utilize Transcription System effectively (processing dictation/transcription). • Assists in the processing department payroll/time Cards timely. • Understands all principles of the electronic health record system and maintains/updates policies and procedures for all staff.
- PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT • Participates in continuously assessing and improving departmental performance. • Ability to communicate changes to improve processes to the director as needed.
- COMMUNICATION • Ability to communicate effectively intradepartmentally. • Ability to communicate effectively interdepartmentally. • Ability to communicate effectively with external customers. • Provides timely follow-up with both written and verbal requests for information, including voice mail and email.
- EDUCATION/CONTINUING EDUCATION • Ability to develop educational materials, inclusive of specific policies and procedures, for training end users. • Ability to assess educational needs of the staff and provides educational needs to the Manager/Director to assist in development of education plans for the department. • Ability to assess Health Information Management needs for professional growth and development.
- Performs Other Duties as Assigned by Manager/Director or designee.
Required Qualifications:
- Req High school or equivalent
- Req 1 year 1 to 2 years' Health Information Management experience in an acute care facility.
- Req Knowledge of Electronic Health Record process and workflow.

- Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
The annual base salary range for this position is $81,120.00 - $133,010.00.
