Maintenance Technician – 1st Shift (Contract Role)
Contract Length: 6+ months
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
Pay: $25–$28 per hour (based on experience)
Location: Cleveland, OH  Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled 1st Shift Maintenance Technician to support daily plant operations and ensure equipment reliability in a 24/7 manufacturing environment. This role focuses on mechanical system troubleshooting, routine maintenance, safety compliance, and supporting operational efficiency across the facility.

Key Responsibilities Equipment & Facility Maintenance
  • Maintain plant equipment and facilities to support continuous operations
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems and components
  • Safely set up and operate necessary tools and equipment
  • Assist with shutdowns, start-ups, derime operations, and production slate changes
Safety
  • Follow all company safety policies and Lone Worker requirements
  • Promote a strong safety culture and maintain a clean work environment
  • Report safety incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately
  • Apply Lockout/Tagout, energy isolation, and Hazardous Work Permit procedures
  • Perform contractor safety indoctrinations
Reliability
  • Use web-based maintenance management systems for preventive and corrective maintenance
  • Maintain and track spare parts inventory
  • Support audits and incident review corrective actions
  • Provide feedback on work instructions and procedures
  • Prioritize and schedule work effectively
Administrative & Operational
  • Follow all Quality Control requirements, including FDA compliance where required
  • Maintain communication with management and participate in operations/safety meetings
  • Direct and monitor contractors
  • Complete all required training and meet performance goals
  • Check business email daily
  • Participate in on-call rotation and overtime as required
  • Support additional sites as needed
  • Assist with plant and equipment commissioning activities
  • Update engineering drawings as changes occur
  • Identify cost-effective solutions while following purchasing guidelines
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma OR certificate in equipment maintenance discipline OR recent military training in maintenance
  • Minimum 4 years of work experience (industrial plant experience preferred)
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • High mechanical aptitude and basic tool proficiency
  • Basic math skills (algebra, fractions, unit conversions)
  • Computer proficiency (internet, Word, Excel, company software)
  • Ability to navigate web-based systems and follow work instructions
  • Able to complete preventative maintenance tasks per best practices
Preferred
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes and related hazards
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings (P&IDs, PFDs, electrical single lines)
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting (with engineering support)
  • Ability to troubleshoot industrial refrigeration skids
  • Ability to operate forklift, overhead crane, or man lift (location dependent)
