CNC Set-Up Operator- West Chicago moving to Northbrook early 2026
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and meticulous CNC Set-Up Operator to join our production team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, setting up, and operating CNC machinery to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and organized work environment. 
Responsibilities

  • Machine Setup and Operation: Load existing programs, select appropriate tools and fixtures, and set up CNC machines (mills and/or lathes) for production runs.
  • Blueprint and Documentation: Interpret and analyze blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine machining requirements and production specifications, including Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Tooling and Materials: Select and load the correct tooling, materials, and components for each job, including custom or complex fixtures.
  • Quality Control: Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and bore gauges to ensure parts meet tight tolerances and quality standards.
  • Machine Adjustment and Troubleshooting: Adjust tool offsets and make minor program edits as needed to optimize performance and correct part deviations. Troubleshoot operational issues to minimize downtime.
  • Maintenance and Safety: Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines. Adhere to all safety protocols, keep the work area neat, and maintain accurate production records.
  • Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with engineers and other machinists to improve tooling, programs, and overall process efficiency. 
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in CNC machine setup and operation.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.).
  • Experience with Mills is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with specific machine controls (e.g., Fanuc, Haas) or CAM software is a plus.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset. 
Schedule
  • 1st Shift Hours: 6:00am to 2:30pm
  • 2nd Shift Hours: 2:00pm to 10:30pm
  • 3rd Shift Hours: 10:00pm to 6:30am
  • Overtime may be required based on production needs.
