Position Summary
The Data Sourcing Programmer is responsible for configuring, maintaining, and optimizing website monitoring and change detection workflows using WebsiteWatcher and related tools. This role ensures accuracy and coverage of digital content used for key data into Dodge's Data Platform. Their key responsibilities will include maintenance of targeted web sources by programming new pages, organizing monitoring structures, validating web content accuracy, troubleshooting detection failures, and coordinating with data acquisition and engineering teams.
This is a part-time position and reports to the Senior Manager, Data Analytics.
Preferred Location and Expected Work Hours
- This is a remote, home-office role and candidates should be located in East or Central timezones.
- Ability to work Monday-Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
0-5% expected travel for this role.
Essential Functions
- Configure and program new web pages within WebsiteWatcher, including defining monitoring frequency, filters, content selectors, and trigger logic.
- Work webpage tasks to create, delete, or fix Change Detection sourced pages.
- Design and maintain structured folder hierarchies, naming conventions, and source taxonomy to support operational efficiency.
- Develop filter rules including regex where appropriate to isolate meaningful content changes and reduce false positives.
- Configure monitoring for dynamic or JavaScript-driven webpages
- Analyze page version history and change comparisons to distinguish structural changes from key construction content updates.
- Research and validate web sources for usefulness and reliability
- Identify and resolve detection errors, including broken links, redirects, HTTP errors, session timeouts, and access restrictions.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
- 2-5+ years of experience in web data sourcing, data operations, web monitoring, or similar roles.
- Understanding of HTML structure and how websites function.
- Knowledge of HTTP response codes, redirects, session behavior, and common web access errors.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Hands-on experience using WebsiteWatcher on comparable change detection platforms.
- Experience with web scraping tools or scripting languages (python, JavaScript, or similar).
- Experience in the construction industry.
