Engine Calibration Engineer 
 
Kelly® Engineering is seeking a Engine Calibration Engineer for a full-time contract to hire position with a small automotive solutions provider in Dexter, MI. If you are passionate about shaping the world we live in and are ready to reengineer your future, trust the experts at hiring experts.  

Overview 
 
This client is a small but growing startup organization that specializes in providing design, testing, & validation solutions for the automotive industry. They support established OEMs, Tier 1 and other OEM startups by providing their expertise on development through testing of automotive systems. Due to growth, they're searching for an Engineer with expertise in Engine Calibration including software controls on engine function.

You'll contribute to the design & development of alternative fuel source engines by creating calibration plans & procedures. You'll also be responsible for developing and executing test and validation plans. You'll utilize your strong understanding of software controls to troubleshoot & adjust engine functionality.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine engine calibration strategies to meet performance, emissions, fuel economy, drivability, and durability targets.
  • Execute calibration activities including test planning, data acquisition, data analysis, and parameter optimization.
  • Collaborate with systems and controls engineers to ensure calibrations align with software and hardware integration requirements.
  • Support dynamometer and on-road test activities, including instrumentation setup and troubleshooting as needed
  • Guide the team on calibration tools, measurement techniques, and best practices.
  • Document calibration results and maintain organized calibration databases.
  • Compile lessons learned and drive continuous improvement in calibration methodologies and project execution.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, or related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • 3+ years of direct experience in engine calibration for gasoline, diesel, or alternative-fuel engines including:
  • Strong knowledge of engine operation and control, with the ability to learn new platforms quickly. Skilled at diagnosing, analyzing, and resolving calibration-related issues, required.
  • Strong understanding of combustion fundamentals, emissions control, and aftertreatment systems, required.
  • Controls in Powertrain, Controls, or related field preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with calibration tools such as ETAS INCA, ATI Vision, Vector CANape, or similar, required.
  • Familiarity with OBD requirements and compliance testing, required
  • Experience with engine dynamometer and/or vehicle testing, including data acquisition systems, required.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (MATLAB, Python, Excel, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
