EHS Specialist (Environmental, Health & Safety) — Contract
Location: Durham, NC
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm
Contract: 1 year
Payrate: Up to $45 per hour (DOE) Key Responsibilities
- Manage the maintenance and implementation of safety programs, compliance plans, and initiatives.
- Participate in incident, near-miss, and property damage investigations, ensuring appropriate follow-up and documentation.
- Conduct, coordinate, and track various EHS training programs.
- Perform routine safety observations to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and company EHS policies and procedures.
- Maintain internal and external regulatory reporting, including air, stormwater, and surface water discharge data.
- Serve as primary contact for regulatory agencies regarding inspections, permitting, and reporting (air, water, waste).
- Ensure company compliance with OSHA, CAL/OSHA, EPA, AQMD, ADA, fire codes, and all applicable regulations.
- Maintain compliance with permits, government regulations and industry best practices.
- Stay current on all safety and environmental regulatory changes that may impact the organization.
- Bachelor's degree required; BS in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred.
- 1–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with EHS responsibility.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to work off-hours or be on-call as needed.
- Demonstrated independent work ethic, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with local regulatory agencies preferred.
- Familiarity with various emission control devices to ensure compliance.
