Kelly Scientific is partnering with a global manufacturer of printing inks to identify a skilled Lab Support Technician. This candidate is responsible for formulating Flexographic Ink, and Ink Jet products. This includes formulating new products as well as improving existing products.
Location: Western Chicago, IL
Salary: $60-75,000 + benefits (insurance, PTO, etc.)
Shift: Mon-Fri
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Research & Development of new products/ formulations
- Improvement to present formulations
- Assisting with customer service; provide support to local manufacturing and sales (QC, technical service, trouble-shooting, product recommendations)
- 25% of time working with customers for new product trials and field technical service
- Evaluating products manufactured in the plant for conformance to established standards. This may include evaluation of raw materials in process components and finished goods. Provide corrective formula. This will include both Flexographic Ink, and Ink Jet as related to Quality control.
- 75% of time selecting, calibrating, installing and maintaining lab equipment
- Communicate and maintain a record of testing; provide updates to sales as necessary
- Follow all work site rules for safety, waste, and chemical handling
- Maintain a clean and orderly work bench and lab work area
- Provide additional support to the company in various areas relating to meeting customer requirements

Essential Skills & Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Chemistry or related field or equivalent advanced knowledge
- Four (4)+ years PSA experience
- Minimum of Three (1) year R&D lab experience
- Satisfactory completion Farmsworth-Munsell 100 Color Hue Test (or similar)
- Demonstrated color matching skills
- Experience formulating Flexo Ink and/or Gravure Ink.
- First-hand familiarity with Flexo Ink and/or Gravure Ink printing applications
- Knowledge of raw materials used in Flexo Ink and/or Gravure Inks
- Proficient with Windows based software, including databases
- Demonstrated ability to work with hazardous chemicals
- Good verbal and written skills for internal and external communication
- Organized and detail oriented
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a lab setting, sitting and standing for the work shift
- Minimal travel required (<10%) to customers and/or other TIA locations within the US
- Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment; this may include steel-toed boots, hard hat, safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection
- Physical ability to lift and move material (at least 50 lbs.)
