Kelly Services in partnership with an industry leader in quality plastics is seeking a Plastics Machine Operator. The Plastics Machine Operator will engage with various beginner-level manufacturing roles and responsibilities within the facility. This position supports production and shipping through diverse supportive tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Accountable for mold changes and machine readjustments.
- Initiate and shut down machinery.
- Operate cranes to swap molds.
- Utilize forklifts to reposition molds.
- Execute minor repairs and replace inserts.
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of high-volume blow molding machines.
- Track production quantities for color and mold changes as well as product completions.
- Ensure compliance with safe working practices.
- Maintain cleanliness in the designated work area.
- Foster and uphold standards in safety, quality, and environmental regulations.
- Detect and address issues related to equipment, personnel, processes, training, and materials affecting production quality and efficiency.
- Supervise equipment and report maintenance requirements to minimize wastage, downtime, and optimize production output while maintaining quality standards.
- Inspect machines hourly to ensure the production of acceptable quality parts and prevent the mass production of defective items.
- Keep machine boards in the assigned area updated with current information.
- Accurately document daily shift performance, including safety, quality, labor hours, production records, and scrap.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED with three years of work experience.
- Demonstrate positive mentoring and leadership abilities.
- Proficient in oral and written communication.
- Forklift certification is advantageous.
- Treat colleagues with respect and dignity.
- Basic skills in mathematics.
- Basic organizational skills.
- Travel may be required as necessary.
Additional Qualifications:
- Utilizing computers, copiers, fax machines, telephones, calculators, packaging equipment, forklifts, as well as appropriate power and hand tools.
- Exerting up to 80 pounds occasionally, 25 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects and operate machines.
- Exposure to machinery, transport equipment, chemicals, and processes involving handling and melting plastics.
- Ability to wear safety glasses with side shields, safety shoes, and other appropriate PPE based on assigned tasks, which includes gloves, hearing protection, work clothes, and aprons.
