At Kelly® Professional & Industrial, we're seeking a Machine Shop Lead to work for a premier optics manufacturer in West Henrietta, NY. With us, it's all about finding the right opportunity for you!

Pay: $29.00 - $43.00/hr. (Depending on experience).
Schedule: Day Shift, Monday - Friday. 

Summary: In this role, the Machine Shop Lead will oversee daily machine shop operations while remaining highly hands-on. This is a working supervisor position, with at least 50% of time spent machining low-volume, tight-tolerance production parts, prototypes, and tooling. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled machinist with strong CNC programming expertise (Mastercam required), leadership experience, and a passion for continuous improvement.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Program, set up, and operate CNC and manual lathes, mills, diamond turning lathes, and Swiss lathes
  • Manufacture and inspect parts to ultra-tight tolerances (as tight as ±0.0001") using precision measuring tools
  • Lead, train, and mentor machinists in machining, setup, and CNC programming
  • Review daily production schedules and ensure on-time delivery
  • Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot machining issues
  • Interpret engineering drawings and collaborate with Engineering and Operations on new jobs, ECOs, and estimates
  • Design fixtures and tooling to support production and prototype work
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives (5S, workflow optimization, work cells, daily management)
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment
  • Monitor Kronos timekeeping and assist with employee performance reviews
  • Support company values, ethical conduct, and safety policies
  • Complete other duties as assigned

This job might be an outstanding fit if you…
  • Have 5+ years of precision machining experience (Required)
  • Are proficient in Mastercam CNC programming (Strongly Preferred)
  • Have experience leading or mentoring machinists (Preferred)
  • Have hands-on experience with CNC mills, lathes, and Swiss machines (Tsugami a plus)
  • Can machine and inspect parts to tolerances of ±0.0001"
  • Are comfortable in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment
