Manufacturing Supervisor – Norwood, MA
Pay: $85,000–$90,000 per year
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 5:00 PM–2:00 AM (flexibility required across 2nd and 3rd shifts)
Training Requirement: Minimum 1 month on 1st shift, Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM

A leading advanced manufacturing organization specializing in precision-coated wire and polymer-based components for medical and other high-performance applications is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Supervisor. This company operates in a highly regulated environment and requires strong quality discipline and hands-on leadership.

Position Summary

This is a hands-on working supervisor role, with 60% or more of the time spent on the production floor. The Manufacturing Supervisor oversees direct labor staff across 2nd (15 people) and 3rd shifts (3 people), manages custom manufacturing equipment, ensures tight-tolerance production, and drives compliance with quality and safety standards. Candidates must have prior manufacturing/production supervisor experience within medical device manufacturing, biotech, or pharmaceutical operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day production output, quality, and shop floor activities; assign daily tasks to shift teams.

  • Maintain quality by ensuring procedures are followed and assisting operators as needed.

  • Participate in investigations, root cause analysis, CAPA development, and internal/external audits as a subject matter expert.

  • Ensure training for 2nd and 3rd shift staff is current; coach, mentor, and develop team members.

  • Monitor production progress, communicate schedule changes, and coordinate with the Manufacturing Manager and relevant stakeholders.

  • Lead troubleshooting and resolution of process and equipment issues; act as the technical point of contact when required.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and EHS policies; oversee equipment safety, maintenance needs, and operator usage.

  • Facilitate shift-to-shift communication and participate in shift change meetings.

  • Implement Lean Manufacturing principles; conduct regular Gemba walks and support continuous improvement activities.

  • Maintain accurate production data; track shift staffing levels and communicate any coverage gaps.

  • Participate in daily standup meetings and relay relevant information to shift teams.

  • Assist with performance management, including coaching, corrective actions, and review processes.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; equivalent experience considered.

  • Required: Prior experience as a manufacturing or production supervisor in medical device, biotech, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.

  • Experience maintaining procedures and monitoring critical parameters to ensure tight-tolerance production.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision and communicate effectively across all levels.

  • Knowledge of GMPs, ISO 13485, and equipment qualification tools (IQ, OQ, PQ) preferred.

  • Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills for both equipment and processes.

  • Experience with optical measurement tools and performing quality measurements.

  • Basic computer proficiency.
